by Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5tjt.com Today, the 15th of Tammuz is the yahrtzeit of Rabbeinu Chaim Ben-Attar (1696-1743), better known as the “Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh.” He was one the greatest biblical commentators of the Acharonim, a mekubal, a Talmudic commentator, and a posek. For most of his life, he lived in Morocco and was primarily known amongst Moroccan Jewry. He ascended to Eretz Yisroel at the age of 43.  His remarkable work was printed as he passed through Italy.  Eventually, he settled in Yerushalayim, where he established his yeshivah, Midrash Knesset Yisrael. The entire spectrum of the Torah community, from Litvish Roshei Yeshiva, to Chassidic Rebbes to Sefardic luminaries focus on every word of the holy Ohr HaChaim.

The father of Jaoquin Oliver, a victim of the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in 2018, heckled President Biden during remarks Monday celebrating the passage of a bipartisan gun bill. “You have to do more than this!” Manuel Oliver yelled at the president. His son Joaquin was a 17-year-old student at the Parkland, Florida, high school when he was gunned down on February 18, 2018. “You have to open an office in the White House!” “I’ve been trying to tell you this for years and years!” he added. Oliver was escorted from the event, which was held on the South Lawn of the White House, by security after yelling at the president. The president attempted to get Oliver to quiet down before security took him out. “Sit down! You’ll hear what I have to say,” Biden said. “We have one.

When Shas MK Moshe Arbel was asked to register as a kidney donor, he didn’t hesitate and began the series of medical tests required of all donors. One of the preliminary tests revealed an abnormal growth on one of his kidneys which could have been life-threatening if left untreated. On Tuesday, he underwent surgery to have it removed. Arbel stated: “Israel is first place in the world in kidney donations. The Borei Olam granted me the zechus that I was requested to join this amazing volunteer system and it ended up leading to the early discovery [of the abnormality] and my quick recovery.” “I thank the public for their inquiries about my well-being. I feel well and I thank the doctors for their prompt treatment.” (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)

A Jewish woman and her son were rescued from an Arab village near Shechem in a complex IDF operation early Tuesday morning. The woman was being held against her will in a Palestinian village and was subject to terrible abuse. She turned to the anti-assimilation group Lehava, the very group that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told PA President Mahmoud Abbas he will be designating as a foreign terrorist organization. “This is a woman with whom we’ve been in contact for a long time,” Lehava chairman Bentzi Gopstein told Arutz Sheva. “She was crying for help.

A Jewish couple is suing Southwest Airlines, saying their daughter is severely disabled after being ejected from her wheelchair while boarding a flight heading from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to Denver, Colorado, last winter. Gabby Assouline, 25, was born with a condition that makes it difficult for her to walk long distances. She was otherwise fully functional – until this incident anyway, the lawsuit states. The family says that as Gabby traversed the bridge leading from the terminal to the plane, her wheelchair got caught, causing her to be thrown from the wheelchair and resulting in injuries that have left her a quadriplegic and on a ventilator. Gabby’s mother says she accompanied her daughter to the gate after special accommodations were made due to Gabby’s disability.

A new national poll has found that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a rising conservative superstar, is now in a close race with former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential nomination. When asked, “Who would you rather see as the Republican nominee for President in 2024?” respondents to the Yahoo News/YouGov poll were split between the two, with 45% choosing Trump and 36% taking DeSantis. The 9-point difference between the two is the closest anyone has come yet to overtaking Trump for the 2024 nomination. In previous Yahoo News/YouGov polls taken in January and February, DeSantis trailed Trump by 23 points and 16 points, respectively, indicating that the Florida governor is gradually closing the gap between himself and the former president.

Calls for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife, Ginni, to testify before the Jan. 6 committee are growing after her lawyer told the panel that she refuses to do so. The committee had asked her to voluntarily testify about her role in the plot to overturn the 2020 election after it was revealed that she had been pushing election fraud theories to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in the days before and on Jan. 6. Thomas texted Meadows a number of times, including one text in which she called Biden’s electoral win “the greatest Heist of our History.” She also sent messages to Arizona election officials, Trump election lawyer John Eastman, and even attended the rally Trump held just before the Capitol riot.

Former President Donald Trump lunged at a Secret Service agent in a rage in the presidential limousine when told he could not be taken to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, a former White House aide testified Tuesday. “I’m the (EXPLETIVE REMOVED) president, take me up to the Capitol now!” Trump insisted, according to the aide, Cassidy Hutchinson, describing what she was told had happened in the limo that day by another White House aide, Tony Ornato. Trump also grabbed the steering wheel of the limo in a fury after learning he would not be taken there, Hutchinson said. Hutchinson, who served as a top aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, revealed the dramatic incident for the first time at an abruptly scheduled hearing of the select House committee investigating the Jan.
