Far-left socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is upping her fight against the moderate wing of the Democratic Party ahead of New York’s June 28 primaries, blasting officials who support increased funding for police amid a dramatic rise in crime in the state. AOC’s latest comments came as NYC Mayor Eric Adams campaigned for veteran Democrats in Albany who are facing stiff primary challenges from progressive candidates being supported by AOC. “Sad how many leaders are so committed to the bit of denigrating advocates that they refuse to even consider the possibility that perhaps abandoning youth employment, school funding, housing & community violence interruption to boost already-huge police budgets makes us less safe,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a social media post.

Severe weather has forced Abbott Nutrition to pause production at a Michigan baby formula factory that had just restarted after being closed for several months, contributing to a national shortage. Production for Abbott’s EleCare specialty formula has been suspended, but there is enough supply to meet demand until production is restarted, the company said. Abbott had prioritized ramping up production of the specialty formula for infants with severe food allergies and digestive problems who have few other options for nutrition. Abbott says it needs to assess damage and re-sanitize the factory after severe thunderstorms and heavy rains swept through southwestern Michigan late Monday.

Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Monday complained that “kollelim are sprouting like mushrooms.” In response to a question by a Kikar H’Shabbat reporter about his planned decrees against lomdei Torah, Lieberman said: “There’s a big difference between yeshivot gevohot and kollelim that are sprouting like mushrooms.” “I want to remind you that there was an original agreement between the Chazon Ish and Ben-Gurion regarding ‘Toraso Emunaso’ – they spoke about 400 lomdei Torah. Today there are 160,000 – much more than the Israeli economy can bear. It needs to be put in order.” (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)

New proposed State regulations completely negate any value of limudei kodesh, and open the door to the imposition of curricular requirements that are antithetical to Torah morals. They empower local boards to evaluate our staff and our curricula, and the projected protocols demand of school boards to direct yeshiva parents to remove their children from schools determined to be substantially inequivalent. Only the voice of the entire Torah-population in the United States, rising in strong protest during this comment period, can quell the looming decree, a projected declaration whose threat and menace border on that of a gezeiras shmad R”L.
