Former Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Hagaon HaRav Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron ZATZAL. he was 79 and was Niftar from COVID-19. In a short statement, Shaarei Tzedek Medical center says that Rav Bakshi-Doron had been hospitalized with the Coronavirus a few days ago, and his condition turned critical until his Petira on Sunday evening. The Niftar was born in Jerusalem to Ben-Zion Bakshi-Doron, an Iranian Jewish immigrant, and Tova, who immigrated from Aleppo, Syria. As a young man, he studied in several prominent yeshivas such as Yeshivat HaDarom, Chevron Yeshiva, and Kol Ya’akov. In 1970, Bakshi-Doron started his rabbinic career in the neighborhoods of Ramat Nasi and Ramat Yosef in the coastal city of Bat Yam.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his gratitude to the staff of the National Health Service for saving his life when his treatment for the coronavirus could have “gone either way” as the U.K. on Sunday became the fourth European country to surpass 10,000 virus-related deaths. Amid some signs of hope that the coronavirus infection rate is plateauing, New York is still wrapping up its worst week in deaths so far since the outbreak began. Officials announced Sunday that the daily death toll for the state topped 700 in the state for the sixth straight day. Meantime, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. A private Ambulance from the AMR COmpany overturned on 18th Avenue and 52nd Street on Motzei Shabbos. Boro Park Hatzolah was on the scene and reported no serious injuries. Two victims were transported to Maimonides Hospital. The ambulance was not carrying any patients at the time of the crash. Each year, hundreds of people pack the Lederman Shul where the Gadol Hador Davens, to partake in this incredible Siyum. In the wake of the severe outbreak of the coronavirus in Bnei Brak, the local hospital stated on Tuesday that they are unable to accept any more patients due to a shortage of basic medical equipment. “[Mayanei Hayeshua] Hospital has 300 beds, including the labor and delivery ward, and we currently have 28 patients on ventilators, 12 of whom are coronavirus patients,” said Prof. Moti Ravid, director of the hospital. “Show me another hospital in Israel which has 15% of its patients on ventilators. We’re within Bnei Brak and we need to accept the entire burden of the city.

YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of HaRav Yehuda Leib (“Leibel”) Groner, who was a secretary of the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZATZAL for over 40 years. He was 88. Rabbi Groner was by far one of the most influential and respected people in the entire Lubavitcher Chassidus around the globe. He was instrumental in caring for the Rebbe after his stroke, when the Rebbe was no longer able to communicate in regular ways. Rabbi Groner and his wife, Mrs. Yehudis (née Gurevitz), are the parents of three sons and four daughters, of whom, some are shluchim in the United States and Israel.
