The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday night issued a blistering rebuttal to news reports that Jews had been targeted in a shooting attack in Monticello earlier in the day. In a statement, the Sheriff’s office gunned down the fallacious story, condemning those involved in its dissemination for unnecessarily and wrongfully instilling fear in countless individuals. The statement reads: On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, media outlet VIN News published a story about a shooting in Monticello. In the article, VIN News cites Duvi Honig of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce as a source of information regarding the incident. Based on Mr. Honig’s information, the news article contends that Jews and their vehicles were being targeted by gunmen on State Route 42.

After bond was set for him at $200,000 in his Georgia election case, former President Donald Trump made light of his legal situation, joking about the possibility of seeking refuge in Russia. In a Truth Social post, Trump directed his attention to Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis, who is leading the proceedings. He humorously alluded that the decision to set a bond signaled concerns about his potential to flee the jurisdiction. Trump quipped, “I assume, therefore, that she thought I was a ‘flight’ risk – I’d fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again,” referencing Russian President Vladimir Putin in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

The U.S. Department of State recommends that U.S. citizens do not travel to Ukraine.  This recommendation applies to U.S. citizens considering travel to Uman during Rosh Hoshanah for the pilgrimage to the grave of Rebbe Nachman. Thirty-five people have been murdered in Israel in terror attacks since the beginning of 2023, a year with the most terror attacks since the Second Intifada, according to Ynet military reporter Yossi Yehoshua. Yehoshua added that the number of people killed since the beginning of the year already surpassed the number of terror victims in all of 2022, when 33 people were murdered. “The number of terror alerts is at a peak – at about 200 a day,” he wrote.

A terrifying incident unfolded on Tuesday in Monticello as a small group of juveniles opened fire on a vehicle traveling along Route 42 near Ichud. The driver of the targeted vehicle returned fire. Law enforcement officials believe the incident was gang-related. Contrary to earlier reports by irresponsible individuals, sources have confirmed to YWN that there were no Jews involved in the incident, nor were Jews targeted. As part of his official visit to Israel, New York City Mayor Eric Adams visited the Kosel on Tuesday. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is currently on a three-day visit to Israel, paid a visit on Monday to the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Rebbe, who is currently hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem due to kidney problems. The mayor was escorted by Yoeili Eisdorfer, senior advisor to Mayor Eric Adams, who accompanied Adams on his visit to Israel. Former President Donald Trump says he will surrender to authorities in Georgia on Thursday to face charges in the case accusing him of illegally scheming to overturn his 2020 election loss. “Can you believe it? I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED,” Trump wrote on his TRUTH social media network Monday night, hours after court papers said his bond was set at $200,000. Israeli security forces rescued an Israeli man who was attacked by an Arab mob after accidentally entering the village of Turmus Ayya near Ramallah on Sunday evening. Local Arabs surrounded the man and threw rocks at him and set fire to his car. Other local Arabs assisted him to escape the area, escorting him out of the village, where he was met by IDF forces. The man was lightly injured by a rock thrown at him. The IDF spokesperson said that “an Israeli citizen was rescued from the village by IDF forces. While he was in the village, a number of Palestinians gathered around him, threw stones at him, and set fire to his vehicle. The forces entered the village and took him out.
