To accommodate alumni and friends around the world who simply could not make it to the Brooklyn Marriott this evening for the Yeshiva Torah Vodaas Centennial Dinner, the program is available for viewing via live-stream on Matzav.com so that one and all can join in this celebration.

With preparations for the upcoming Siyum HaShas on January 1, 2019 at MetLife Stadium well underway, we take a moment to mark the yahrtzeit today of Rabbi Moshe Sherer zt”l, legendary leader of Agudas Yisroel.
Rabbi Sherer was one of the visionaries who foresaw the growth of Daf Yomi and the Siyum HaShas, believing back in the 1980s that a larger venue would be needed for this once-in-seven-and-a-half-years event.
“More than a celebration,” Rabbi Sherer proclaimed at the Siyum HaShas almost four decades ago, “it is a powerful demonstration of the nitzchiyus of Torah, of netzach Yisroel lo yeshaker.”
The explosion of Daf Yomi is credit, in large part, to Rabbi Sherer, who saw the potential and growth of the program.

Torah Celebration of a Lifetime
As the mother of the yeshiva movement in America, Yeshiva Torah Vodaath bears an illustrious legacy of a century. For five generations, the visionary foresight of the leadership of Torah Vodaath has hewn the path for a Torah-true education and the unprecedented growth of Yiddishkeit in this country.
The historic accomplishments of Torah Vodaath will be celebrated tonight, Sunday, May 26. The Brooklyn Marriot will be the place to be that momentous evening, as a massive crowd, with dignitaries and guests traveling in from across the globe to participate, will unite to pay tribute to a yeshiva that will long stand out in the annals of the American Torah world.

The journey of haschalas gemarah is daunting for any boy in yeshiva: a new language, unfamiliar grammar, foreign concepts and a set of logic that is quite challenging. It’s like being in 1st grade all over again!
Of course, those of us who have successfully navigated this journey know how worthwhile it is, and appreciate how our lives have been eternally transformed through the learning of Gemorah. But have we forgotten the experience of the journey itself? Perhaps it was that first good grade that gave us confidence. Or maybe just an encouraging word that carried us through.
