The border situation has been a persistent challenge for Kamala Harris, and now her choice of jewelry is drawing attention as well.
On Friday, the Democratic presidential candidate was seen at the southern border in Arizona, attempting to project strength in one of her most politically vulnerable areas. She was walking by a fence secured with razor wire in Douglas, Arizona, speaking with a US Border Patrol agent.
Harris, 59, was dressed in dark sunglasses, a brown jacket over a black top, and dark pants, while wearing what critics claimed to be a $62,000 necklace from Tiffany’s.
“Dems decided to send Kamala Harris out in a $62,000 Tiffany necklace to reassure the middle class that she and the corpse we just saw wheeze through a debate have their best interests at heart!” one critic posted on X.
Another user on the platform remarked, “Maybe leave the $60,000.00 Tiffany’s necklace at home when visiting the border. Respectfully, you look ridiculous & thoroughly removed from what’s right in front of your face. The photo op wasn’t a total loss, though. They got a great shot of that necklace!”
A third user wrote, “She’s ’middle class’ but sure does enjoy showing off her $62,000 Tiffany gold necklace!”
The necklace in question is a gold chain-link design, resembling Tiffany & Co.’s Bold Graduated Link Necklace in yellow gold, which carries a hefty price tag. It remains unclear if Harris’ necklace is indeed from Tiffany’s, as neither the jewelry company nor her campaign responded to inquiries.
Harris visited Douglas, a town of around 17,000 residents, where she discussed plans to address “our broken immigration system,” trying to regain political footing on this critical issue as she faces a tight race for the presidency against Republican contender Donald Trump.
This trip marked her first return to the southern border since her 2021 visit to El Paso, Texas, four months after President Biden appointed her as the point person for border issues.
During her visit, Harris criticized Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, for “fanning the flames of fear and division” over immigration, while Trump labeled her “totally incompetent” after federal data revealed that over 15,000 illegal immigrants in the US have been convicted or charged with homicide.
Harris’ jewelry choices have previously sparked discussion.
Following her Sept. 10 debate against Trump, some conspiracy theorists on social media suggested her gold and pearl earrings contained a hidden Bluetooth device. The earrings appeared to resemble a gold version of Tiffany’s Double Pearl Hinged Earrings.
