Following the tragic events of October 7, thousands of Americans who had been in Eretz Yisroel for Sukkos found themselves stranded, as most airlines cancelled their flights to and from Israel. Governor Ron DeSantis announced last week that the State of Florida will bring home as many Floridians as possible. On Friday morning, Hatzalah South Florida received a request from the State of Florida’s Director of EMS at the request from the Governor, to provide the medical resources for the hundreds that will be arriving, many who have been without proper medical care for over a week – including many suffering from serious medical conditions. Since then, Hatzalah of South Florida has been preparing, along with state and federal resources, to greet the passengers disembarking from the emergency evacuation flights as they arrive in Florida. Approximately 300 people were on the charter flight, traveling from Tel Aviv to Portugal to Tampa. Gov. DeSantis said he anticipates hundreds of Floridians will fly back in the next few days. He announced on X Thursday that he approved an executive order authorizing rescue operations in Israel. DeSantis said the operations will “bring Floridians home and transport supplies to our allies.”
