New information has surfaced regarding the murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the United Arab Emirates. The intelligence blog Intelli Times reports that Iran may have set up a terrorist affiliate in recent years, consisting of Uzbek Shiite-Iranian activists, which could be linked to the killing, according to Kan 11 News.
The report claims that this terrorist group was led by a Tajikistan-born operative named Muhammad Ali Burhanov, who oversaw Unit 400 of the Iranian Quds Force, a network responsible for attacks within Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This unit’s objective was to target Jewish and Israeli interests, and there have been several documented efforts in recent months to carry out such operations.
Burhanov is said to have studied at a Tehran campus, which is known for its role in recruiting global activists to support Iranian intelligence agencies. The network he led reportedly also included operatives from the Hezbollah Brigades, a key Iranian-backed militia in Iraq.
Earlier on Sunday, the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Interior announced that three individuals had been arrested in connection with the murder of Rabbi Kogan.
The Ministry detailed that after receiving a missing persons report from the victim’s family, a specialized team was quickly formed to investigate. This led to the recovery of the body, the identification and arrest of the suspects, and the initiation of legal proceedings. Further details will be shared once the investigation concludes.
