FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — A warm winter means that, for apparently the first time in the history of German winemaking, the country’s fabled vineyards will produce no ice wine — a pricey, golden nectar made from grapes that have been left to freeze on the vine. The German Wine Institute said Sunday that none of […]

Turkish forces shot down two Syrian fighter jets over northwest Idlib on Sunday, just hours after Syrian regime forces downed a Turkish drone over the region, according to the Turkish Defense Ministry. The incident comes amid direct clashes between Turkey and Syrian regime forces in northwestern Syria in recent days.
The Turkish Defense Ministry announced on Twitter that its forces had downed two SU-24 fighters “belonging to the regime that attacked our aircraft.” Syria’s state-owned SANA news agency confirmed the fighters had been hit over Idlib, saying that the pilots had ejected from the aircraft and landed safely.

There is no national primary for presidential nominations, but Super Tuesday is as close as we get. This week we will see the most states hold nominating contests, the most voters have a chance to go to the polls, and the most delegates will be allotted to candidates. More than a third of all delegates for the Democratic National Convention are up for grabs.
What happens on Super Tuesday will shed some light on the big questions around the Democratic presidential primary – and there are a lot more questions than usual at this point in an election cycle.
Here’s what you should know.
The states: Fourteen states and one U.S. territory will hold contests for 1,357 delegates.

The director-general of the Health Ministry on Sunday said Israelis should not hesitate to go out and vote in Monday’s national elections, and should not be deterred by the deadly coronavirus.
“The situation is under control. Everyone who was infected with the coronavirus, we know where they were infected and this is important… it’s safe to go vote. Don’t hesitate… go vote,” Moshe Bar Siman-Tov said in a video statement.
Bar Siman-Tov said 16 special polling stations across the country have been set up for the 5,630 people who are under home quarantine after returning from trips abroad and there are special instructions for those individuals.
“For everyone else, I say, go vote, everything is safe and you don’t need to worry,” he said.

The United States, Australia and Thailand each reported their first coronavirus-related deaths over the weekend, all in the span of about 12 hours, as the virus continued its rapid spread around the globe.
Covid-19 has now killed patients on four continents, with the global death toll climbing toward 3,000. Countries are tightening travel restrictions, canceling public events and urging people to take health precautions.

Earlier this month, it appeared former vice president Joe Biden’s campaign was fizzling. On Saturday, Biden won decisively in South Carolina, giving Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., his first clear loss.
So where does that leave the Democratic race for president? Here are five questions we have now.
1. Have Democrats settle on an alternative to Sanders?
That is admittedly a premature question given that as of Saturday, less than five percent of delegates have been awarded. But it’s one worth raising after Biden’s performance in South Carolina, where he had a dominant showing powered by a key Democratic constituency – more than half of South Carolina primary voters are black – and jumped up to second place overall for delegates, behind Sanders.

Pete Buttigieg is dropping his presidential bid after a disappointing showing in South Carolina, ending a meteoric rise that saw the once-obscure former mayor of South Bend, Ind., beat out several bigger-name rivals in the race for the Democratic nomination.
Buttigieg is on his way to South Bend, where he will make the announcement later tonight.
The then-mayor launched his campaign last April, touting a unifying message and the promise of generational change in Washington. He also sought to attract moderate voters of all stripes, often talking about his conversations wooing “future former Republicans.”

Iran’s health ministry reported on Sunday that the death toll in the nation from coronavirus has risen to 54 and the number of confirmed cases has almost reached 1,000.
Iran, which has the second-highest number of deaths from the disease behind China, now has 978 confirmed cases, marking a dramatic increase overnight. On Saturday, Iran reported 43 deaths and 593 infections.
The health ministry spokesman, Kianoush Jahanpour, said the number of cases is “still inclining” and the newly confirmed cases are in several Iranian cities, according to The Associated Press.
