A horrific tragedy has unfolded in Meron where Lag Ba’omer has been transformed into mourning. Multiple people have been killed and many more injured when a balcony collapsed in the area where the Toldos Aharon Rebbe was conducting his hadlakah.
Medics are providing medical assistance to dozens of wounded. Over 150 people have been injured, dozens of whom are in serious or critical condition.
CPR was performed on many of the injured, some of whom have r”l succumbed to their injuries.
In light of the tragedy, the commander of the Northern District Police has ordered for all buses headed to Meron to turn around. No one new will be allowed on the mountain for the duration of the night.

Derek Chauvin has been found guilty on second-degree and third-degree murder charges, as well as second-degree manslaughter charges, over the death of George Floyd, who died after being kneeled on for several minutes while being arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota last summer.
Floyd’s death sparked nationwide protests, with millions marching in the streets demanding fundamental changes to police tactics and even the abolishment of “inherently racist” police departments, and raising racial tensions in the US to heights not seen in decades.
Chauvin, whose trial gripped the nation over the last few weeks, is expected to appeal the verdict, with the possibility of a mistrial being declared on appeal looming large.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Yitzchok Scheiner, rosh yeshiva of the Kamenitz Yeshiva, a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel Hatorah, and one of the preeminent roshei yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel. His petirah comes on the heels of the petirah earlier today of Rav Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Brisk.
Rav Scheiner was 98 and had battled Covid-19, among other medical challenges. Rav Scheiner had contracted the virus after he received his first dose of the vaccination. After his condition deteriorated this morning, he was taken to the hospital, where he was niftar.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Hagaon Rav Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik zt”l, rosh Yeshivas Brisk in Yerushalayim. He was 99 years old.
Rav Soloveitchik had battled ill health for the last few years and particular medical challenges over the last period.
Born in 1921, Rav Soloveitchik was the fifth of twelve children and the third son born to the Brisker Rov, Rav Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik, and Rebbetzin Alte Hindel.
Rav Soloveitchik was a grandson of Rav Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk and a great-grandson of the Bais Halevi, Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, serving as the oldest link to the legendary Brisk dynasty.
His mother was a daughter of Rav Chaim Auerbach.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Maran Hagaon Rav Dovid Feinstein zt”l, one of the gedolei haposkim and rosh yeshiva of Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim.
Born in 1929 in Luban, in the former Soviet Union, Rav Dovid was a son of the gadol hador and posek hador, Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l, and Rebbetzin Shima Feinstein.
Rav Dovid was named after his zaide, Rav Dovid Feinstein, rov of Uzdan and a great-grandson of the Vilna Gaon’s brother. Rav Dovid’s wife was a descendant of Rav Yom-Tov Lipmann Heller, the Shelah Hakadosh, and Rashi.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Hagaon Rav Chaim Dov Keller zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Telshe Yeshiva in Chicago. He was 90 years old.
Born in New York City in 1930, Rav Keller attended Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchonon and then joined Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland, Ohio, where he learned under the roshei yeshiva, Rav Chaim Mordechai Katz and Rav Eliyahu Meir Bloch, the latter of whom became his rebbi muvhak.
He became renowned for his brilliance and hasmadah, and was recognized as a budding talmid chochom.
He married his wife, Rebbetzin Chaya Devorah Keller a”h, a daughter of Rav Leizer Levin zt”l, rov of Detroit.
