The California Department of Justice (DOJ) released a report on July 2 revealing that anti-Semitic hate crimes increased by 21 percent in 2018 from the year prior.
The report documented 126 instances of anti-Semitic hate crimes in 2018, an increase from 104 in 2017. However, it was a decline from the 160 instances of anti-Semitic hate crimes in 2009.
Jews were the most frequent target of anti-religious hate crimes in California in 2018, followed by the “anti-other religion” category at 30 instances, 28 instances of anti-Muslim hate crimes and 10 instances of anti-Catholic hate crimes.
Despite the increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes, hate crimes overall in California dropped by 2.5 percent from 2017 to 2018, according to the report.

By Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss

If you look in your Chumash, you will see that at the end of every parsha it tells you how many pesukim there are in the parsha.  It then gives you a siman, a pneumonic device, to remember that number.  At the end of Parshas Korach, it tells us there are ninety-five pesukim.  It then gives us a very perplexing siman.  It tells us, “Daniel,” for Daniel is ninety-five in gematria.  This is mystifying since why would we choose to attach such a venerable and saintly man like Daniel to the likes of Korach who rebelled against Moshe and Ahron and who was so wicked that he was swallowed off the face of the earth.

Archaeologists have unearthed “many human remains” in northeast Romania near an area where in 2010 they discovered a mass grave for more than 100 Jews killed by Romanian troops during World War Two, military prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The archaeologists, who are supported by the Elie Wiesel Institute and have been scouring the area since 2010 for possible other mass graves, also discovered a grenade and an 82 mm caliber gun mortar at the site.
“Notified by the Elie Wiesel Institute… we launched a criminal probe regarding the June 29 unearthing of many human remains during archaeological research work in the proximity of an area where a mass grave was found in 2010,” the prosecutors said in a statement.

Q:
Why did Hashem make United States such a rich country?

A:
Why did Hashem give prosperity to America? Now that’s a question you’ll need Hashem to answer, but I’ll take my little one cent brain and I’ll say a s’vara. I’ll say that it was because America allowed the Am Yisroel to come here and it gave them opportunities to live with full rights.  Other countries didn’t do that all the way back; but America, right from the beginning, gave us full rights.
