Why did NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio suddenly impose a Covid-19 vaccine mandate on private businesses? To stick a finger in the eye of Mayor-elect Eric Adams, insiders told the NY Post. The mandate, which applies to more than 184,000 NYC businesses will take effect on December 27th, just four days before de Blasio leaves the mayoral mansion. “I think for the outgoing mayor to announce something like this knowing that the implementation and enforcement would entirely be the responsibility of the next mayor is a real big (expletive removed) you,” an Adams surrogate told the New York Post.

The NYPD is searching for a thief who broke into the same shul 3 times over the past two weeks, swiping at least $2,200 from the shul pushka during the break-ins. The perp first broke into the Congregation Israel of Kings Bay on Nostrand Avenue at around 10 pm on Monday, November 22nd, shattering a rear window to gain entry. He stole approximately $600 during the heist. That Thursday, he struck again, shattering the same rear window, and stealing some $750 in tzedakah. He returned again this Sunday, smashing his favorite rear window yet again, and walking off with another $850-or-so from the shul’s pushka. Anyone with information in regard to the identity of this individual is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

Con Edison, the New York utility company, is planning to build an electric transmission facility off the coast of New Jersey to connect multiple offshore wind projects and bring the power ashore. The company on Monday proposed “Clean Link New Jersey,” a transmission network into which numerous turbine-powered wind farms can plug. It would carry the electricity along New Jersey’s coast, coming ashore at two power substations in locations yet to be determined in central or northern New Jersey. Con Edison Transmission Inc. plans to connect 2.4 gigawatts of future offshore wind capacity to the grid’s high-voltage onshore system, which it said is enough to power about 1 million homes.

Four more cases of the omicron variant of the coronavirus have been detected in New York, bringing the state’s number of cases up to 12, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday. Two of the latest cases were found upstate, in Oneida County, and the other two were in Long Island’s Suffolk County. Of the previous eight cases, one was in Suffolk County and seven in New York City. Hochul said none of the four latest cases was related to a three-day anime festival in New York City in November, which a Minnesota man who later tested positive for the omicron variant attended. There’s still a lot to determine about omicron, including whether it is more contagious, as some health authorities suspect, whether it can evade vaccines and whether it makes people as sick as the original strain.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority said on Monday that, as part of its 2022 budget, it will be raising tolls on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike by 3%. The rise comes just 16 months after the tolls on the two largest toll roads in the Garden State spiked by 36% and 27%, respectively. “The purpose of the 3% indexing is to provide a stable funding source for capital needs. That’s where the additional revenue will be going,” a Turnpike Authority spokesman said. “It will support the unprecedented amount of work being done under the Authority’s long-term capital program.” Beginning in 2022, the Turnpike Authority is allowed to raise tolls by 3% based on certain economic indicators, though it hasn’t been publicly stated what those economic indicators are.

A woman who lodged a harassment allegation against former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was “disgusted” by what she saw as his hypocrisy and attempts to discredit women who made similar allegations against his brother, her lawyer said Sunday. The woman’s complaint became known shortly after CNN fired the “Cuomo Prime Time” anchor Saturday night. Chris Cuomo had been criticized for breaching journalistic ethics by trying to help his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, beat his own harassment charges. The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, took her allegations against Chris Cuomo to CNN on Wednesday through her lawyer, Debra Katz. Katz did not give any specifics about the alleged behavior, believed to have occurred before Cuomo joined CNN in 2013.

Do you ever wonder: Who gives the yesomim of our communities Chanukah presents? Who gives them Chanukah gelt? Who ensures they experience the joy of Chanukah like all other children? It’s Project Yedid of Misaskim. And here’s what they did about it this year. Project Yedid is the division at Misaskim that assists almonos and yesomim beyond the week of shiva. This has been the most closely guarded secret at Misaskim for over a decade. In fact, hardly anyone outside of the families themselves is privy to the kindness and assistance continuously offered. Project Yedid began when Misaskim realized that there was no one to hold the hands of almonos and yesomim once the week of shiva was over.

Immediately after his nefarious motives came to light, Haliwa played the role of victim, stating that he had a difficult life and was having trouble converting to yiddishkeit, thus prompting him to lie about his ethnic roots.
