A Jewish mother and her 6 children flying from Orlando to Newark Airport were thrown off the plane over a mask issue involving a toddler. The father tells YWN that the mom and 5 of the children were all masked-up as they headed home to Flatbush, Brooklyn, but their youngest child – two years old, was not wearing a mask. A flight attendant requested that the child wear a mask, but the mother explained that there is no way the child will wear one. More importantly, the mother also explained to the flight attendant that according to the JetBlue policy, her child was not even required to wear a mask.

Borough President Eric Adams today joined State Senator Simcha Felder, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein and Councilman Kalman Yeger, calling on NYC Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia to dismiss all sanitation tickets issued during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the area of the BK12 sanitation garage, covering Midwood and Borough Park, at a time when the Governor and Mayor were urging everyone to stay inside, sanitation agents were aggressively issuing tickets to residents who had not gone outside to clean their sidewalks.

A young Jewish girl was abducted in Bensonhurst while waiting for her day camp bus on Tuesday morning, and after a frantic search, was found inside the home of her abductor. Highly credible sources tell YWN that the 11-year-old child left her home as she did every day all summer, and walked a half a block to her corner to wait for her bus to day camp. While waiting at the corner, a Jewish man approached her, grabbed her arm and then forcibly took her into his apartment. The mother soon learned that the child was not in day camp, and immediately contacted the Boro Park Shomrim Emergency Hotline, who called the NYPD and a search was launched in minutes. Dozens of Shomrim volunteers began searching every street in the area.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has gained a national following through his management of the coronavirus pandemic, is writing a book that looks back on his experiences so far, and includes leadership advice and a close look at his relationship with the administration of President Donald Trump. Crown announced Tuesday that Cuomo’s “American Crisis” will be released Oct. 13, three weeks before Election Day, when Trump is expected to face presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden. The news comes the day after Cuomo addressed the Democratic National Convention and called the virus’ spread a metaphor for a country weakened by division. New York State has one of the lowest infection rates in the U.S., a welcome contrast to the spring, when it had one of the highest.

COVID-19 cases in U.S. nursing homes jumped nearly 80% earlier this summer, driven by rampant spread across the South and much of the West, according to an industry report released Monday. “The case numbers suggest the problem is far from solved,” said Tamara Konetzka, a research professor at the University of Chicago, who specializes in long-term care. She was not involved with the study. Long-term care facilities account for less than 1% of the U.S. population, but more than 40 percent of COVID-19 deaths, according to the COVID Tracking Project. The situation is a politically sensitive issue for President Donald Trump, who is scrambling to hold on to support from older voters as polls show disapproval of his administration’s response to the pandemic.

Police say an Inwood man has been arrested and accused of making a terroristic threat toward a Yeshiva children’s camp. According to detectives, police were responding for a complaint regarding a violation of social distancing at Yeshiva Ketana of Long Island children’s camp. Police say the call was made by Nicola Pelle, 58, of, Inwood. While police were en route to the call, they say Pelle called again and threatened to get a gun and shoot the individuals at the location if the police didn’t get there. During the investigation, police say that Pelle identified himself as the caller, and was then placed under arrest without incident. In his home, police found five handguns, rifles and shotguns, two of which were assault weapons, police said. All of the guns were seized as evidence.

Outbreaks of coronavirus in three different Chabad Bungalow colonies in the Catskills have led to a lockdown for at least one of them this week. According to COLlive, cases have been confirmed at Evergreen Estates, Inner Circle, Mei Menuchos, and Mountain Lodge. After being advised by the Gedalia society and Dr. Eli Rosen, the Board at Mountain Lodge have established “modified” guidelines in recognition of our community’s experience. “Anyone who previously tested positive for Covid or tested positive for antibodies does not need to quarantine. However, you should be vigilant and monitor your health. If you feel sick, get tested and isolate. Pay special attention to social distancing,” they advised. Anyone who has not had the virus must quarantine for two weeks.

Joseph Ortiz headed for the home of a stranger who tested positive for COVID-19, unsure how his unexpected visit would go. The person hadn’t answered phone calls from New York City’s contact tracing program, a massive effort to keep the coronavirus from spreading by getting newly diagnosed people to identify others they might have infected before those people spread it further. Ortiz was out to try to bring the person into the fold. “It’s a mixed bag. You never know what you’re going to get,” Ortiz, 30, said as he approached the person’s Queens apartment building this month.
