A young thug was arrested in Boro Park on Tuesday afternoon, after two violent incidents. Sources tell YWN that Boro Park Shomrim received a call on their hotline reporting an attempted robbery of Yossies Heimishe Bakery on 18th Avenue and 57th Street. The owner of the establishment says a young teen walked into the bakery and demanded the money from the cash register, and claimed he had a gun in his backpack. The store-owner told him to get lost, and the suspect left the store. While Shomrim was interviewing the store-owner, Shomrim received another hotline call that a child was just punched in the face in the 18th Avenue Park. The victim stated that the suspect punched him and demanded his money. The description of the suspect matched the description of the suspect in the bakery.

YWN has learned that as a result of a meeting of local Monsey Rabanim, signatures are in the midst of being collected to discredit a popular Hechsher in Monsey. The community Rabanim have been told of multiple incidents of eye-opening breaches and outright incompetence with this Hechsher. The supervising Dayan of this Hashgacha has been informed of these issues and has done nothing to correct them. After lengthy discussions, the Rabanim felt that they are left with no choice but to inform their Kehilos of these developments. The letter they are currently drafting advises them to refrain from patronizing the pizza shops, restaurants and all stores under his supervision – or lack thereof, until they pursue a reliable, trustworthy Hechsher.

Three more states — Delaware, Kansas and Oklahoma — have been added to the growing list of states under the tri-state quarantine order as New York and New Jersey investigate new travel-related outbreaks amid the U.S. virus surge. As of Tuesday, travelers to the tri-state area from 19 hotspot states are told to isolate for 14 days. In addition to the three newcomers, the restricted states included: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Utah, Texas, Tennessee, Iowa, Idaho, Georgia, California, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Nevada. Many of those states are among at least 21 to reverse or pause reopenings entirely as they scramble to curb a COVID surge the CDC warned more than a week ago may already be beyond the nation’s ability to control.

New York hospitals released more than 6,300 recovering coronavirus patients into nursing homes during the height of the pandemic under a controversial, now-scrapped policy, state officials said Monday, but they argued it was not to blame for one of the nation’s highest nursing home death tolls. Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration, which has taken intense criticism over the policy, instead contended the virus’ rampant spread through the state’s nursing homes was propelled by more than 20,000 infected home staffers, many of whom kept going to work unaware they had the virus in March and April. Another 17,500 workers were infected through early June. “Facts matter. And those are the facts,” state Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said in a news conference.

The ruling has just been handed down by the judge: There will be no overnight summer camps in NY this summer. CLICK HERE TO READ THE RULING SOME QUOTES FROM THE RULING: Although Plaintiffs argue that Jewish overnight camps would have rigorous training on health and safety protocols developed from physicians and health policy professionals (Dkt. No. 7, Attach 2, at 15-16), Defendant’s executive orders apply to all overnight camps throughout the state, which may not have the appropriate resources. Overnight camps are also generally a significant distance away from hospitals and located in remote areas with limited healthcare access. (Dkt. No. 25, Attach.

A white woman walking her dog who called the police during a videotaped dispute with a Black man in Central Park was charged Monday with filing a false report. In May, Amy Cooper drew widespread condemnation for calling 911 to report she was being threatened by “an African-American man” when bird watcher Christian Cooper appeared to keep his distance as he recorded her rant on his phone. District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement on Monday that his office had charged Amy Cooper with falsely reporting the confrontation, a misdemeanor. She was ordered to appear in court on Oct. 14.

Mayor Bill de Blasio blamed the uptick in violence over the weekend on the coronavirus pandemic, while defending the city’s latest policing reforms and vowing to keep New York City “the safest big city in America.” De Blasio held a press conference Monday after a weekend of violence across New York City that left at least eight people dead and more than 44 people shot and injured. “I want to talk about what happened this weekend. Many were out there celebrating, but we saw too much violence, and we have a lot of work to do to address it,” de Blasio said, while adding that “there is not one cause for something like this.” “This is directly related to coronavirus,” de Blasio said.

Police are investigating a bullet that struck the windshield of a marked NYPD vehicle with two officers inside. It happened outside the 40th Precinct on Alexander Avenue and E138th Street in the Bronx. The bullet ripped through the windshield & into the divider between the back seats – missing both officers by inches. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, in other anti-police violence in NYC, a man pointed a gun at cops in Queens, while another threw a lit firework into an NYPD vehicle in Brooklyn. Thankfully, no one was injured or killed. This is the environment created and cheered on by Socialist Mayor Bill DeBlasio and his buddies at “Black Lives Matters”. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
