NYC Mayor Deblasio is a total failure and a pathetic joke. He has allowed the city to descended into total chaos. Half of the most expensive Manhattan storefronts are boarded up with plywood. The looters were released from jail in 3 hours with zero bail thanks to Albany’s wonderful “bail reform” laws. We have NYPD heroes being shot, stabbed, beaten to a pulp, run over by vehicles. He singled out the entire Jewish community with a tweet sent to his millions of followers over social distancing, but wouldn’t dare do the same to the other communities – specifically those rioting. His Sheriff Department is running around Boro Park and Williamsburg handing out summonses to businesses that are opened in defiance of the Governor’s Executive Order.

The thousands of people protesting the death of George Floyd have a “civic duty” to be tested for the coronavirus and help New York avoid a spike in new cases as it slowly restarts its economy, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday. There’s widespread concern that people packing in tightly for demonstrations, sometimes without faces coverings, could lead to more COVID-19 cases. Cuomo was particularly concerned about daily mass demonstrations in New York City, which is poised to relax some restrictions amid an intense, monthslong effort to tame the outbreak. “If you were at a protest, go get a test, please,” Cuomo said at his daily briefing. “The protesters have a civic duty here also.

Thanks to great police work and a fast NYPD response, at least 5 suspects are in custody in connection to a shots fired incident, which had the entire community in lockdown. Sources tell YWN that at around 12:00PM, suspects fired 2 shots next to the 101 Precinct on Mott Ave and Cornega Ave. They quickly fled on foot, the main suspect still armed with a gun. Although it has not been confirmed, an NYPD source tells YWN that the suspect may have been aiming at officers at the Precinct. Heavily armed NYPD Swat teams searched the backyards, and were assisted by the NYPD Aviation Unit and K-9 Units. By 2:00PM, five suspects were in custody, and a weapon had been recovered. One additional suspect was still missing. Far Rockaway Shomrim (RNSP) are on the scene assisting the NYPD.

A protest is planned for this Shabbos in Lakewood over the death of George Floyd, and local authorities are joining with the organizer in efforts to promote it as a peaceful event. The protest is scheduled for 1:00PM at 9th Street and Clifton Avenue, and will march down Clifton Avenue to Lakewood Town Hall. The demonstration is scheduled to end at 3:00PM. Meanwhile, some store owners on Clifton Avenue are boarding up their shops and removing valuables out of fears that the protest could turn into all out looting.

With camps in limbo if they will be allowed to open, NY Governor Cuimo says a decision on whether sleep away camps can open this summer in New York is yet to be made. In an interview this morning, Cuomo told Long Island News Radio that the issue is the inflammatory illness believed to be related to the cronavirus that has been affecting children, and concerns over spreading it. Cuomo reiterated that as the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths decline, summer day camps can start to open at the end of the month. He said no decision has been made on sleepaway camps. So, he added, “Summer day camps are going to open on June 29. We’re still reviewing the situation with sleepaway camps.” “I’m making that decision like it’s my own daughter.

The protests haven’t stopped, but New York City officials were hopeful that an earlier curfew and refinements to police tactics are helping restore order after days of unrest over the death of George Floyd. “Last night we took a step forward in moving out of this difficult period we’ve had the last few days and moving to a better time,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was critical of the police response on prior nights, said the city was “much better” Tuesday and that officers were better equipped to keep the peace. “Last night was a much, much better than the night before. So it worked. We got results. Let’s just remember what we did last night and keep that going.”Cuomo said.

A Williamsburg man made a Kiddush Hashem on Wednesday, by handing out water at a Black Lives matter protest on Bedford Avenue. Around 1,000 protesters marched peacefully down Bedford Avenue – through the heart of the Williamsburg Hasidic Community. One man, R’ Moshe Yosef Friedman stood in the street and handed out water to a few dozen NYPD Officers. He then handed out around 200 bottles of water to the protesters – all of whom were protesting in an orderly and civilized way. One of the NYPD Sergeants turned to a group of Hasidic men and said “We know the Jewish Community has a good heart!” (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
