In preparation for the upcoming Pesach holiday, COJO of Staten Island held a security and community coordination meeting with leadership from the NYPD, FDNY, Staten Island Shomrim, Hatzolah, the Department of Sanitation, and the NYC Mayor’s Office, focusing on the safety and logistical needs of the Jewish community. NYPD Assistant Chief Melissa Eger of Patrol Borough Staten Island assured community leaders that there is currently no credible threat. The NYPD is actively monitoring developments on both a national and global scale and stands ready to respond as needed. Chief Eger also acknowledged the ongoing leadership and communication efforts of COJO Security Chairman Ari Weiss, with whom she remains in constant contact.

In a landmark display of coordination and partnership, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office—under the leadership of Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz—hosted its first-ever Pre-Passover security briefing, bringing together more than 160 members of law enforcement, elected officials, and Jewish community leaders from across South Florida. Speaking to YWN, Rabbi Mark Rosenberg, Senior Advisor and Chief Chaplain to the Sheriff, emphasized the significance of the meeting. “We’ve held holiday briefings for many years, but this was the first time the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office itself hosted it,” Rabbi Rosenberg said.

Mayor Eric Adams, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and other NYPD and Mayoral officials joined with community leaders for a Passover Security Briefing at Police Headquarters on Wednesday April 2, 2025. The NYPD Honor Guard presented the colors after which World Renowned Cantor Nissim Saal beautifully sang the National Anthem for the crowd of over 400 people. Mayor Eric Adams spoke about public safety and the strong working relationship between the NYPD and the Jewish community, especially after the horrific October 7th terrorist attack in Israel. Commissioner Tisch stated there will be an increased police presence at synagogues and the nobility of policing. Chief Chaplain Rabbi Dr. Alvin Kass spoke about the beauty of Pesach and the meaningfulness of freedom after slavery.
