A towering construction crane caught fire high above the west side of Manhattan on Wednesday morning, then lost its long arm, which smashed against a nearby building, dangled and then plummeted to the street as people ran for their lives on the sidewalk below. Four people suffered minor injuries, but no one died, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “As you can see from the debris on the street, this could have been much worse,” the Mayor said, noting that the street at that hour of the morning is often filled with pedestrians, cars and buses. The fire atop the 54-story building was reported around 7:25 a.m. Photos and videos posted on social media showed flames bursting from the car of a crane hundreds of feet above 10th Avenue at 41st Street.

Four Israeli newspapers ran full-page ads on Tuesday morning consisting of a large black square with a sentence in small white text at the bottom saying: “A Black Day For Israeli Democracy.” The word “advertisement” was printed in tiny white text at the very top. The ads, which are estimated to cost about $300,000 [each front-page ad cost about $80,000], were funded by the Hi-Tech Protest movement, a left-wing organization comprised of business owners and hi-tech employees. The ads, printed on the front pages of Haaretz, Yediot Achranot, Calcalist and Yisrael HaYom, were ostensibly published in response to the passing of the reasonableness bill on Monday.

Russian fighter jets ‘severely damaged’ a US Air Force MQ-9 Reaper drone that was conducting counter-ISIS operations over Syria, the US CENTCOM (Central Command) said in a statement this morning. The incident occurred this Sunday, the statement noted. The drone operators were successfully able to return the damaged unmanned aircraft to its home base. CENTCOM released a video of the supposed incident saying Russian-fired flares “severely damaged” the drone’s propellers. “The Russian fighter’s blatant disregard for flight safety detracts from our mission to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS. We call upon the Russian forces in Syria to put an immediate end to this reckless, unprovoked, and unprofessional behavior,” the US Air Force said in the statement.
