Three Israelis with flu-like symptoms were hospitalized and placed in isolation to rule out the possibility they contracted the coronavirus which has killed 41 people in China, a Channel 12 News reports said. The doctors believed that the three patients, who recently returned from China or had contact with people who had, didn’t actually have the virus but were acting with the utmost caution to prevent the possible spread of the quickly spreading virus. Later on Motzei Shabbos, the Health Ministry announced that lab tests showed that the three did not have the coronavirus. Two other Israelis who also recently returned from China and were experiencing flu-like symptoms were hospitalized earlier over the weekend but were pronounced free of the virus and released.

An Afghan-born U.S. citizen already serving life in prison for a bombing in New York City was sentenced Friday to an additional life term for a shootout with police in New Jersey as he attempted to avoid arrest in 2016. State Superior Court Judge John Deitch sentenced Ahmad Khan Rahimi for actions he said were “completely abhorrent to civilized society.” The sentence will run consecutive to the life term Rahimi is serving for the New York bombings. The shooting occurred in Linden, New Jersey, two days after a bomb exploded in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, injuring 30 people. After police responded to a call and found Rahimi sleeping in a doorway, he fired at one officer, who was saved by his protective vest.

Firefighters toiled all night and were still putting out pockets of fire Friday morning at a building in the heart of Manhattan’s Chinatown. Nine people were hurt, eight of them firefighters, but none of the injuries was considered life-threatening. Responders were called around 8:45 p.m. Thursday to Mulberry Street for a fire that started on the fourth floor of the city-owned building and extended to the fifth floor and through the roof. Videos and photos posted to social media showed flames bursting out of windows and flowing heavily from the roof of the building, which Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Twitter was “a pillar to the Chinatown community.” Jian Chun told the New York Post that a victim was trapped on the top floor when firefighters arrived.

Following French President Emmanuel Macron’s outburst at Israeli Shin Bet security officers outside the Church of St. Anne on Wednesday, several Israeli news outlets said his anger about Israeli security officials entering the church was due to the pro-BDS and anti-Semitic organization that is housed in the church. No one really knows whether that prompted Macron’s anger or he just has a bad temper but is there is a genuine reason he is so territorial about the church? The Church of St. Anne is a Roman Catholic church in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem which was given to France by the Ottoman Empire in 1856. There definitely is a reason and it’s not pretty. What is indeed known about the Church of St.

The White House said Thursday it has invited Israel’s prime minister and his main political rival to Washington next week to discuss the “prospect of peace” with the Palestinians, who have already rejected the administration’s long-awaited peace plan. Vice President Mike Pence announced the invitation at a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem after addressing an international forum on the Holocaust. He said that at Netanyahu’s request an invitation has also been issued to Benny Gantz, a former army chief and Netanyahu’s main rival in March 2 elections. The announcement indicated that the White House may be ready to release its peace plan after several delays.

Mike Pence was making headlines on Thursday while on his visit to Israel where he delivered a stirring speech at the World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem. While walking into the event, Pence was greeted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Thanks to hot mic, Pence was heard saying “We are contending. He’s unstoppable, like someone else I know.” It is unclear what Pence and Netanyahu were discussing or the context of the remarks captured on the microphone, but all assume Pence was referring to President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
