Israel’s Supreme Court on Sunday issued a temporary injunction against the Incapacitation Law following last week’s unprecedented hearing on the law, which was passed as an amendment to a Basic Law. The court also stated that it will hold an extended hearing on the law, with an 11-judge panel versus the three-judge panel that deliberated the law on Thursday. The Incapacitation Law prevents an attorney-general from declaring a prime minister as “incapacitated” [unfit for office] except in exceptional circumstances. The injunction orders Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the Knesset to justify why the court shouldn’t rule that the implementation of the law be postponed until the next Knesset so it won’t be viewed as a personal law designed to aid Netanyahu.

We all knew it was coming, and finally it happened. Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to lash out at his Republican primary rival and former Vice President Mike Pence for his recent comments concerning Trump’s indictment over the events of January 6th. Earlier this week, Trump faced an arraignment in Washington, D.C., for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election on January 6th. Throughout the proceedings, Trump and his supporters have placed blame on Pence for not intervening to prevent Congress from certifying the election results on that fateful day. In contrast, Pence has repeatedly stated that he prioritized upholding the constitution over his loyalty to Trump.

Journalist Avi Ravina posted a video this week of the men’s section of a separate beach in Ashdod that is overcrowded with hundreds of men and boys in a small area. Ravina wrote: “Only about 10% of the beaches in Israel are separate beaches for the Dati and Chareidi public although they make up 23% of the population. This has to change!” Haaretz journalist Chaim Levinson commented: “Opinion: My friend Avi is correct. Some separate beaches should be added just for Bein HaZemamin. This state of affairs isn’t reasonable.” According to a Kikar H’Shabbat report, the separate beach in Netanya was so crowded one day this week that the municipality blocked the entrance. At other beaches, it was difficult for people to find a spot to enter the water.

Donald Trump pleaded not guilty Thursday to trying to overturn the results of his 2020 presidential election loss, answering for the first time to federal charges that accuse him of orchestrating a brazen and ultimately failed attempt to block the peaceful transfer of presidential power. Trump appeared before a magistrate judge in Washington’s federal courthouse two days after being indicted on four felony counts by Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith. The charges accuse him of trying to subvert the will of voters and undo his election loss in the days before Jan. 6, 2021, when supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in a violent and bloody clash with law enforcement.

The tragic petirah of a father of ten this week is only one of many tragedies in this week alone, the first week of Bein Hazemanim. Sadly, in recent years, every Bein Hazemanim seems to be marked by a rise in terrible tragedies. Last year, HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein, z’tl addressed the issue by saying that “the Torah is humiliated during Bein Hazemanim.” “There were several tragedies, rachmana litzlan after Tisha B’Av, during Bein Hazemanim,” HaRav Edelstein, z’tl said last Bein Hazemanim. “[The tragedies] were in a strange way, not usual tragedies. It’s incomprehensible. Many people lost their lives.” “What is this that Hashem Elokeinu is doing to us? Why this? Apparently, during Bein Hazemanin, the zechus of Torah is lacking.

In a heroic cross-continental operation, a missing Jew was found in a wartorn country and brought across the border in order to grant his wife a get. The story began in Israel with a marriage between two Israeli-Ethiopians. About eight years ago, the husband suddenly disappeared, leaving his wife an agunah. The wife opened a file in the Beis Din in Tel Aviv and the case was transferred to the Ethiopian Immigrant Department. Efforts were first made in Ethiopia and via intelligence and diplomatic means, it was discovered that the husband may have immigrated to Canada. However, extensive efforts in Canada yielded no results.
