In the early hours of Saturday morning, New York City police received a 911 call reporting an assault in Lower Manhattan. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man, unconscious, suffering from severe head trauma. He would later die of his injuries.
After another man appeared with a similar injury, the officers swept the area. They found two other dead victims nearby and then a third at another location, each with severe head trauma.
The four deceased men, all believed to be homeless, and one severely injured victim were apparently random victims of bludgeoning, police said.

The leadership of the Orthodox Union on Friday expressed their deep concern over the Swedish Centre Party’s vote to fight the non-medical circumcision of boys.
“The Swedish Centre Party’s decision to promote a ban on religious circumcision is synonymous with calling for the end of Jewish life in Sweden. Religious circumcision is a core Jewish obligation which has been practiced for over two millennia,” said OU President Moishe Bane.
OU Executive Vice President Allen Fagin added, “The Swedish Centre Party’s decision to promote a ban on religious circumcision would lead to the exodus of Jews from the country. We ask that they hear our concerns, understand the importance of this issue and respond accordingly.”

After decades of steady climbing, the birth rate for twins fell in the US for the first time since the 1980s, according to a new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The 2018 twin birth rate was the lowest in a decade, dropping 4% between 2014 and 2018, the report found.
Experts say the decline is due to better technology for fertility treatment procedures, which was the reason for the decades of increased twin birth rates to begin with: From 1980 to a peak in 2007, twin birth rates more than doubled. From 2007 to 2014, the number fluctuated before steadily declining over the past five years.

Iran will not succumb to US pressure and will use every possible way to export its oil, Iranian Oil Ministry’s website SHANA quoted Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh as saying on Sunday.
Iran’s crude oil exports were reduced by more than 80 percent when the United States re-imposed sanctions on the country last November after President Donald Trump pulled out of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.
“We will use every possible way to export our oil and we will not succumb to America’s pressure because exporting oil is Iran’s legitimate right,” Zanganeh said.
In response, Iran has gradually scaled back its commitments to the 2015 nuclear deal, under which Tehran accepted to curb its nuclear activities in return for lifting most international sanctions.

A German neo-Nazi who argued before the EU’s leading human rights court that a ban on Holocaust denial was a violation of his human rights was sent packing by the unanimous decision of seven judges on Thursday.
Udo Pastörs — the former leader of the far-right National Democratic Party (NDP) — was told that denial of the Nazi slaughter of six million Jews was not a basic human right.
The judges, who serve in the Chamber of the European Court of Human Courts (ECHR), overruled an attempt by Pastörs to appeal a conviction for Holocaust denial handed down by a court in Germany in 2012.

Joe Biden accused President Trump of “pushing flat-out lies…against me and my family” in an op-ed late Saturday — and repeated his vow to beat the incumbent “like a drum” in the 2020 election.
The Democratic frontrunner pushed back against Trump’s claim that he improperly urged the ouster of Ukraine’s top prosecutor because he was investigating a local energy firm that employed his son, Hunter Biden.
“President Trump seemingly cannot tell the truth — about anything. He slanders anyone he sees as a threat,” Biden wrote in The Washington Post.
“That is why he is frantically pushing flat-out lies, debunked conspiracy theories and smears against me and my family, no doubt hoping to undermine my candidacy for the presidency.”

According to a report on The Times of India website on Sept. 26, intelligence agencies warned that a terror plot by Al-Qaeda and cells affiliated with the Islamic State were planning attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets during the Jewish holiday season.
The intelligence pointed to a possible attack on the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi, as well as sites frequented by Israeli tourists.

New Jersey is experiencing a “huge increase” in antisemitic activity and “every tool” needs to be used to combat the trend, the congressman representing the state’s 5th electoral district declared on Friday.
Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer was speaking on a conference call arranged to address a spate of swastika daubings and other antisemitic offenses in New Jersey public schools in recent weeks.
Highlighting the growing threat posed by white supremacist groups across the state, Gottheimer emphasized that his office was actively assisting security enhancement at religious institutions.
“We’re working together with our communities and our religious institutions by providing them with non-profit security grants,” Gottheimer said.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib said this week that only African-Americans should operate facial recognition software in Detroit because white people think black people all look the same.
“Analysts need to be African-Americans, not people that are not, because let me tell you — no, it happens all the time, it’s true. I think non-African-Americans think all African-Americans look the same,” Tlaib told police Chief James Craig during a tour of the Detroit PD’s “Real Time Crime Center,” where they use facial recognition technology to locate suspects.
