By Rabbi Yair Hoffman A significant mix-up occurred at the Assuta Medical Center in Rishon Lezion during an IVF procedure in 2022. The error came to light when medical problems were detected in the fetus, necessitating a series of tests. These tests revealed a startling truth: neither the woman carrying the child nor her partner were the biological parents of the baby they were expecting.  There was a bad mix-up. The Court Decision In a landmark ruling, the Rishon Lezion Family Court determined that the genetic parents should be recognized as the child’s legal parents. The ruling, issued by Judge Oved Elias, ordered that the child be removed from the custody of the birth parents and transferred to the genetic parents.

It will not deter us from continuing to grow flourishing communities in the UAE or anywhere – especially with the help of the dedicated commitment and work of the Chabad emissaries all over the world. “I thank the UAE authorities for their swift action, and trust they will work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice. Our thoughts and condolences are with Rabbi Kogan’s wife and family.

Israel called the abduction and murder an “antisemitic terror attack.” Israeli security officials confirmed that Mossad teams were sent to Dubai to investigate the case, and they were also in contact with Turkish authorities. According to information they have received, the cell that carried out the act fled from Dubai to Turkey, complicating the investigation further. Rav Kogan, H’YD 41, was the assistant to Rabbi Levi Duchman, the Chief Rav of the Jewish kehilla in Dubai, and was considered a central figure among the Jewish and Israeli community in the city.

The Chabad-Lubavitch headquarters has issued its first official statement regarding the unsettling disappearance of one of its shluchim, Rabbi Zvi Kogan, who is feared to have been abducted or killed in Abu Dhabi.
“We are deeply concerned about Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary who went missing in the Emirati city of Dubai on Thursday,” the statement reads, attributed to Chairman Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky. “Our emissaries are working closely with authorities as they investigate his disappearance.”
The organization’s statement also emphasizes that Chabad is davening for Rabbi Kogan’s safe return and urges the wider community to join in those tefillos.
