Israeli security officials have confirmed that Hezbollah #3 commander Ali Karaki was not eliminated in a recent airstrike in Beirut. Initial reports from Lebanon claimed Karaki was killed in the strike, but Hezbollah later claimed Karaki was alive and taken to a ‘safe’ location.
The Israeli security officials say Israel believes the assassination attempt failed due to the small munitions used int he attack. In the strike, the Air Force aimed to prevent nearby buildings from collapsing, therefore it only targeted the floor of the building which Israel believed Karaki was staying.
In the elimination of senior Hezbollah terrorist Ibrahim Aqil last Friday in Beirut, Israel used more powerful munitions, which brought down a nearby building.
Following the report, MK Tzvi Sukkot of the Religious Zionism party slammed the decision to use smaller munitions, saying: “The fact that Ali Karaki wasn’t eliminated because they were afraid of collateral damage is nothing short of madness. Those who show mercy to the enemy are directly harming the citizens of Israel.”
“I submitted an urgent inquiry to the Defense Minister this morning to find out what the policy is on this and who is responsible for this terrible decision.”
