Early Friday morning, at around 12:40 a.m., sirens echoed across the regions of Gush Dan, the Shfela (Lowlands), and the Sharon.
According to a statement from the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, these sirens were triggered by the launch of a missile from Yemen.
“The missile that was fired from Yemen was successfully intercepted by the ‘Arrow’ Aerial Defense System. Sirens and explosions were heard following the interception and falling shrapnel,” the IDF reported.
A later statement clarified, “Following the sirens that sounded in central Israel, the surface-to-surface missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted by an ‘Arrow’ interceptor outside of Israeli territory.”
The military added that “there is currently no change to the IDF Defensive guidelines.”
The explosions and sirens were a consequence of the interception occurring at a high altitude, beyond the earth’s atmosphere. This process caused multiple sirens to go off, as there were concerns about debris from the interception landing in various areas.
Magen David Adom confirmed there were no casualties directly linked to the missile launch. However, several people were treated for shock, and others were injured while rushing to shelters.
This missile attack from Yemen followed the killing of Muhammad Hussein Srour, Hezbollah’s aerial unit commander, who was targeted by the IDF in an airstrike in the Dahieh area of Beirut.
Srour, a high-ranking Hezbollah operative, had previously advised the Houthi rebels on military matters.
After the missile launch, Houthi official Nasr al-Din Amer posted on X, “Occupied Jaffa is under fire.”
Approximately two weeks earlier, the Houthis had fired a missile at central Israel, which was only partially intercepted, with part of the warhead exploding near Ben Gurion Airport.
On Thursday evening, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced that, over the previous 24 hours, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) had targeted around 220 Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.
These strikes focused on sites used for terrorist activities, launchers that had fired projectiles toward Israel, Hezbollah militants, and weapons storage facilities in Lebanon.
“The IDF is continuing to operate to degrade and dismantle Hezbollah’s terrorist capabilities and infrastructure,” the statement emphasized.
On the same day, Israel Air Force Commander General Tomer Bar spoke to troops and officers at Tel Nof Airbase.
“We are now going to prevent any possibility of weapons transfers to Lebanon from Iran, in light of the capabilities we’ve now degraded from Hezbollah,” Bar declared.
