The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) has recently reported that it uncovered around 200 attempts by Iranian hackers to target civilians. The agency revealed this information, highlighting the scale of the cyber threats.
These hacking efforts involved phishing campaigns aimed at a wide range of individuals, including politicians, academics, and media figures. The Shin Bet further explained that the hackers were attempting to gain unauthorized access to the personal data of their targets, including emails, computers, and smartphones. By infiltrating these devices, the hackers sought to gather sensitive information such as home addresses and locations where these individuals reside.
The Shin Bet explained that the hackers employed tactics such as tricking the victims into downloading malicious apps or redirecting them to fraudulent websites designed to collect personal details. Once they acquired this information, the hackers planned to use it for launching attacks on these individuals through Iranian-linked cells operating within Israel.
In addition, the Shin Bet revealed that it had successfully thwarted nine attempts by Israeli citizens to carry out operations against the country on behalf of Iran.
