President-elect Donald Trump took aim at former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie by sharing a meme mocking his Republican rival’s weight, humorously linking it to the recent surge in drone sightings on the East Coast.
Trump shared the post on Truth Social, featuring what appeared to be an AI-generated image of Christie surrounded by five drones. Each drone was carrying a red McDonald’s bag as Christie, depicted in the image, appeared poised to devour several hamburgers.
The meme’s creator captioned the image with the line: “We now know the source of the drones over New Jersey.”
Over the past month, New Jersey officials have reported nearly 1,000 drone sightings statewide, with similar incidents occurring across the country. These mysterious objects have sparked widespread curiosity and speculation about their origins.
Federal authorities, however, have dismissed these reports, attributing the sightings to misidentified aircraft, such as helicopters or small planes, and assuring the public that they pose no threat to safety.
Christie, a former ally of Trump turned outspoken critic, has repeatedly targeted the president-elect in recent years. He has accused Trump of being responsible for a rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia and even credited him with “creating” Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Meanwhile, Trump has frequently used Christie’s weight as fodder for ridicule.
During the 2023 Republican primary race, Trump told supporters on the campaign trail to refrain from calling Christie “a fat pig.”
The year prior, Trump shared a photo on Truth Social of an overweight man at a buffet, joking that it was “Chris Christie at a Roy Rogers at 11 PM in the evening trying to console himself.”
The feud between the two GOP figures continues to play out both online and on the national stage.
