Since October 7, 2023, 12 complaints have been filed against Israeli Defense Forces soldiers overseas, accusing them of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip, according to Channel 12.
This information was shared earlier today in a briefing to a security cabinet subcommittee led by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
The complaints stemmed from countries including Brazil, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Belgium, the Netherlands, Serbia, Ireland, and Cyprus, the report reveals. While no soldiers were arrested in connection with the allegations, Israeli officials instructed those named to leave the countries where the investigations were taking place as soon as possible.
The extent of the investigations remains unclear, as Channel 12 notes that in most instances, no further inquiry was conducted after the initial complaint.
Earlier today, Brazilian media reported that an IDF soldier who survived the October 7 Hamas attack at the Supernova music festival and later fought in Gaza had been forced to flee Brazil. This followed a ruling from the country’s Federal Court, which mandated that police initiate a war crimes probe against him.
Additionally, Channel 12 reports that Sa’ar’s subcommittee was briefed on a significant rise in global antisemitism, with incidents increasing by 104% in the second half of 2024, and online antisemitic incidents up by 63%.
