Hamas has informed the family of notorious terrorist Marwan Barghouti that he will be freed during the second phase of the ongoing ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, according to Kan News.
A source close to the negotiations revealed to Kan News that Hamas is developing a strategy to seize control of the Palestinian Authority following the end of Mahmoud Abbas’ leadership, with Barghouti being seen as the leading contender in any potential elections.
Barghouti was the head of the terrorist faction “Tanzim” and was behind several attacks that led to the deaths of Israelis. He was apprehended and sentenced to five consecutive life terms in prison, along with an additional 40-year sentence.
In December, Husam Hader, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and a leader in Fatah’s Tanzim group, confirmed that Barghouti was at the top of the list of terrorists Hamas demanded be released in exchange for Israeli civilian hostages.
Hader emphasized that Hamas repeatedly insisted, “there will not be a deal without him.” However, a diplomatic source clarified that Barghouti will not be freed if an agreement with the terrorist organization is reached.
