As lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are divided on the idea of a U.S. takeover of the Gaza Strip, one Democratic senator has voiced support. Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman said that he was all in favor of sending U.S. troops to the war-torn enclave.
“I don’t know what the role [of U.S. forces] is, but they’re obviously a part of it, and I fully support,” he told Jewish Insider when asked if he wanted to see American boots on the ground.
While Fetterman described President Donald Trump’s proposal for the U.S. to “take over” Gaza as “provocative,” he didn’t reject the idea outright.
“It’s a provocative part of the conversation, but it’s part of the conversation, and that’s where we are,” he said. “The Palestinians have refused, or they’ve been unwilling to deliver a government that provided security and economic development for themselves. They allowed 10/7 to occur, and now Gaza has to be rebuilt. Where are the people going to live? Where are they going to go?”
Trump dropped his shocking announcement during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu on Tuesday, declaring that “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip.”
