Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has instructed that a criminal inquiry be initiated into the relationships between officials in the Prime Minister’s Office and Qatar. This decision follows revelations regarding Eli Feldstein, the former spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been charged with endangering national security due to his involvement in the theft and leakage of classified IDF documents. Feldstein is alleged to have worked with Qatar through an international firm hired by Doha to distribute pro-Qatar narratives to leading Israeli journalists.
The Attorney General’s Office made the announcement after a meeting that included Baharav-Miara, State Attorney Amit Aisman, the head of the police’s investigations and intelligence department, and senior officials from the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service.
During the meeting, “information was presented as to the connection between elements working in the Prime Minister’s Office and elements connected to the state of Qatar,” according to the Attorney General’s Office. The investigation will be conducted jointly by the Shin Bet and the police.
