US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he had authorized the use of emergency powers to speed up the delivery of around $4 billion in military aid to Israel.
Rubio stated, “The decision to reverse the Biden Administration’s partial arms embargo, which wrongly withheld a number of weapons and ammunition from Israel, is yet another sign that Israel has no greater ally in the White House than President Trump.”
He further elaborated, saying, “Since taking office, the Trump Administration has approved nearly $12 billion in major FMS sales to Israel. This important decision coincides with President Trump’s repeal of a Biden-era memorandum which had imposed baseless and politicized conditions on military assistance to Israel at a time when our close ally was fighting a war of survival on multiple fronts against Iran and terror proxies.”
Rubio emphasized that the Trump administration “will continue to use all available tools to fulfill America’s long-standing commitment to Israel’s security, including means to counter security threats.”
US President Donald Trump recently reaffirmed that he had directed the release of a hold on 2,000-pound bombs destined for Israel.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, “A lot of things that were ordered and paid for by Israel, but have not been sent by Biden, are now on their way!”
In early May, Axios reported that President Biden had decided to halt a shipment of weapons that was meant for Israel. The White House later confirmed that the shipment of bombs had been paused due to American objections to a planned Israeli strike on the Gazan city of Rafah.
The situation developed further when Biden warned the following day that he would halt American arms shipments to Israel if Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu authorized a large-scale invasion of Rafah.
In August, the US sent Israel a consignment of MK-83 bombs, each weighing half a ton.
