During a security briefing on Thursday, Defense Minister Israel Katz convened with top military officials, including the heads of the Operations and Intelligence Directorate, the chief of COGAT, and other senior defense figures. The discussion centered on the anticipated arrival of flotillas aiming to reach the shores of the Gaza Strip as part of a protest.
The IDF sought guidance from the Defense Minister regarding how to respond to the incoming vessels. In reply, Katz directed the military to permit the ships to dock in Gaza, allow the demonstrators to disembark, and then seize the vessels, transporting them to the port of Ashdod.
Katz explained that this strategy would enable the ships to be repurposed for evacuating Gaza residents who wish to leave the territory.
“Those who come to protest on the shores of Gaza for the residents of Gaza – we’ll send them into Gaza and will use the ships to take residents out of Gaza,” Katz stated.
