President Donald Trump addressed the media at the White House, stating that he does not plan to intervene in the long-standing practice of daylight saving time.
The annual adjustment of clocks by one hour will take place at 2 a.m. this coming Sunday, March 9th, marking the start of daylight saving time for this year.
Elon Musk, an advisor to DOGE, took to social media this week to share his thoughts on the time shift, and his poll garnered over 1 million responses, with a slight majority leaning toward one side of the debate. However, Trump emphasized that he has a good grasp of the issue and has no intention of altering the established timekeeping system in the United States.
Speaking to reporters, Trump commented, “It’s a 50/50 issue, and if something is a 50/50 issue, it’s hard to get excited about it.”
The Hill notes that the president acknowledged the challenge in making a decision on the matter. He remarked, “I assume people would like to have more light later, but some people want to have more light earlier because they don’t want to take their kids to school in the dark.”
For now, daylight saving time remains in effect across most of the country. However, it’s important to note that Hawaii and most of Arizona do not participate in the time change, as pointed out by the U.S. Navy Astronomical Applications Department.
