Quds Press, a Palestinian Arab news agency, reported that in Doha, Qatar, there were four discussions held between Hamas and American representatives regarding extending the initial ceasefire agreement and negotiating the release of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza.
The US reportedly insisted on a separate deal that would see the release of an Israeli soldier who holds American citizenship, as well as the return of the remains of four American citizens who were killed. In return, Hamas requested the release of hundreds of Palestinian Arab prisoners, and the US agreed to free 250 security detainees, including 100 who had been sentenced to life imprisonment, as well as others serving lengthy sentences.
According to sources mentioned by Quds Press, Israel objected to the release of 50 prisoners who had received life sentences. In response, Hamas agreed to limit Israel’s objections to just ten individuals who were serving life sentences.
Additionally, it was reported that during the fourth meeting, the American representative pulled back from the previously discussed terms, stating that President Trump had requested the release of American hostages without any preconditions. As a result, the meeting ended without a resolution.
Currently, five American citizens remain imprisoned in Gaza, with only one, Edan Alexander, believed to still be alive.
