A passenger aboard an Air Canada flight traveling from Vancouver to Toronto was taken aback when the digital in-flight map showed Israel replaced with the label “Palestinian territories.”
The map, which the passenger captured in a photograph, did not show any borders for the West Bank, the area commonly referred to as Judea and Samaria, nor for Gaza. The entire landmass of Israel was instead labeled as “Palestinian territories.”
In response, Air Canada attributed the error to the technology behind the interactive map, which led to the disappearance of Israel from the display.
“Air Canada has been made aware of a display issue with the interactive map on the IFE systems of its B737 aircraft. The issue has affected other carriers using the same system and we are working with the third-party provider on a remedy,” the airline said in a statement.
