Hunter Biden has successfully secured a decision to dismiss his lawsuit over the alleged hacking of his laptop, citing financial struggles, but the judge has ruled that he will not be allowed to bring the case again in the future.
Federal Judge Hernán Vera of California partially accepted Biden’s 55-year-old request to drop his legal battle against Garrett Ziegler, a former White House aide, after Biden argued that he is unable to pay off his debts. He claimed that his memoir and artwork aren’t generating enough income, and that his family had to move out of their upscale Malibu home following the destruction caused by wildfires.
Photographs published by the NY Post last week showed Hunter’s residence largely intact, despite the widespread devastation caused by the Pacific Palisade fires in January, which destroyed surrounding properties.
It was unclear if there was any hidden damage within the house itself.
Ziegler, who worked as an aide to trade adviser Peter Navarro during the Trump administration, attempted to prevent the case from being dismissed, as he intended to pursue legal fees from Biden.
Although Judge Vera ruled to close the case, he rejected Biden’s request to leave the door open for future legal action, preventing him from re-filing the case at a later date.
Biden had been scheduled for a deposition on March 10 by Ziegler, who Biden accused of illegally accessing his controversial laptop and publishing its embarrassing contents on his conservative non-profit site, Marco Polo.
Attorneys for both Hunter Biden and Garrett Ziegler did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Friday morning.
