Eli Sharabi, the recently released hostage, will be speaking to the United Nations Security Council later this week, sharing his harrowing experiences during the months he spent in captivity under the control of Hamas.
Sharabi will be joining the U.S. delegation at the UN, hosted by Israel’s ambassador, Danny Danon. Earlier this month, Sharabi visited Washington, where he met with U.S. President Donald Trump after being invited to the White House alongside other former hostages. The president was informed about an interview Sharabi gave to Israel’s Channel 12, in which he recounted the traumatic ordeal he endured while being held captive by Hamas. Trump was also visibly disturbed by Sharabi’s appearance following his release, as well as that of fellow hostages Ohad Ben Ami and Or Levy. He remarked that they looked like survivors of Nazi concentration camps.
“After everyone in Israel was shocked to hear his account of the time in captivity, I have no doubt that the ambassadors in the Security Council will be unable to continue to turn a blind eye to the reality and refuse to work for our hostages. We will not be silenced until they are all home,” Danon said.
Sharabi was taken from his home during the Hamas massacre, when he made the difficult decision to surrender his weapons and go with the terrorists to Gaza in order to protect his wife and two daughters, who were hiding during the assault. It was only after his return that he discovered his family had been killed, and one of his brothers, also taken captive, had died while in detention.
