Early on Tuesday morning, the IDF targeted military assets that remained at the Syrian military installations in Tadmur and T4.
“The IDF will continue to act in order to remove any threat posed to the citizens of the State of Israel,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit stated in a press release.
This is the second time in recent days that the IDF has targeted these particular Syrian bases. A similar military strike took place on Friday evening, focusing on key military assets.
Over the past few weeks, the Israel Air Force has carried out numerous airstrikes on military sites associated with Bashar Al-Assad’s former Syrian regime, which was toppled by rebel forces back in December.
The goal of these actions is to further undermine the military capabilities of the ousted regime, driven by concerns that its assets could be seized by hostile forces operating within Syria’s borders.
In late February, Defense Minister Yisroel Katz confirmed that Israel was conducting military strikes within Syria, stating, “The air force is currently striking with force in southern Syria as part of the new policy we have defined of demilitarizing southern Syria—and the message is clear: we will not allow southern Syria to turn into southern Lebanon.”
He continued, “We will not compromise the security of our citizens. Any attempt by Syrian regime forces or terrorist organizations in the country to establish themselves in the security zone in southern Syria will be met with fire.”
This confirmation came during a time when the IDF was actively targeting military sites in southern Syria, which included command centers and various locations housing weapons.
