The House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees have opened an investigation into six organizations that received federal grants under the Biden administration. The inquiry seeks to determine if these funds were used to impact Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s political position during the 2023 judicial reform protests, according to Jewish Insider.
Jewish Insider obtained letters showing that Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) have contacted six groups: the Jewish Communal Fund, Middle East Dialogue Network, Movement for Quality Government in Israel, PEF Israel Endowment Funds, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, and Blue and White Future. The letters, sent on Wednesday evening, request detailed information on the organizations’ participation in the protests.
These groups, having received US government funding, are accused of being involved, either directly or indirectly, in activities related to the protests.
Jordan and Mast have voiced their concerns, accusing the Biden administration of using taxpayer money to back efforts aimed at “attempting to undermine Israel’s democratically elected government.” They have raised the possibility that such actions could be a violation of civil liberties and may even be criminal, according to Jewish Insider.
The committees have demanded all relevant documents and communications related to the grants, with a deadline for submission set for April 9.
