The following is an unedited press release submitted to YWN by the “Socialist Workers Party”, which is known as a communist party: To the Satmar Hasidim and the whole Jewish community, The Socialist Workers Party joins you in condemning the vicious Dec. 10 attack at the Jersey City Kosher Supermarket that killed Leah Mindel Ferencz, Moshe Deutsch, and Douglas Miguel Rodriguez. It’s important to tell the truth. This was murderous Jew hatred. This is not the first anti-Semitic attack over the last several years in the U.S. including the attacks on synagogues in Pittsburgh, Penn., and Poway, Calif. At the moment these are acts by isolated individuals. The overwhelming majority of working people of all nationalities and religious beliefs oppose Jew-hatred. But if every expression of anti-Semitism isn’t answered and combated, that opposition can and will be pushed back. Jew-hatred is stirred up in times of crisis under capitalism, as class tensions sharpen. The scapegoating of Jews for economic and social problems is a deadly threat to all Jews, religious and secular, in all walks of life and of all viewpoints. It is also a threat to the political rights won through the American Revolution, the fight against slavery, and in the battles to build unions and to defeat Jim Crow segregation. Anti-Semitism is used to divide us, to try to get working people and the oppressed to take our eyes away from the real problem: a capitalist system that is based on maximizing profit at the expense of the needs of the vast majority. The labor movement needs to stand with you in condemning these attacks. The Socialist Workers Party offers you our solidarity and joins in fighting Jew-hatred and anti-Semitic attacks wherever and whenever they occur. We speak out and explain the importance of opposing Jew-hatred in all its ugly manifestations everywhere we go: on picket lines of workers on strike, door to door talking to working people at their homes, and at political and social protest actions. Don’t hesitate to contact us. We stand shoulder to shoulder with you in the fight against anti-Semitic attacks and Jew-hatred.
