Over the last few hours, Rabbi Moshe Furer, noted askan from the United States, entered the home of Rav Chaim Kanievsky to discuss the current emergency global campaign to save Yeshiva Kiryas Melech-Tiferes Tzion, which is led by his son, Rav Shlomo Kanievsky. Rabbi Furer heard from Rav Chaim about his personal concern for the future of the yeshiva and the urgency of the current campaign.
Rabbi Furer made several phone calls to friends of his in America from Rav Chaim’s room, and after a few minutes, he announced, in Rav Chaim’s presence, that he was committing to raise $ 1.5 million from his friends and colleagues, provided that the public contributed a similar sum until the end of the campaign.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) on Monday signed into law a bill that requires the state’s public schools to teach about the Holocaust and other genocides, The Associated Press reported.
“Today more than ever, we need the learning opportunities that a bill like this will bring to our schools,” Brown said at a signing ceremony.
Schools will reportedly be required to “prepare students to confront the immorality of the Holocaust, genocide, and other acts of mass violence and to reflect on the causes of related historical events” starting the 2020-2021 school year.

Sen. Lindsey Graham found himself squarely in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s cross hairs Monday after the South Carolina lawmaker lashed out at the Queens congresswoman and her cohort of progressive female lawmakers known as “the Squad.”
“I see @LindseyGrahamSC’s biggest issue w/ Trump’s racism is that it doesn’t go far enough – Graham wants to bring back 1950s McCarthyism, too,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Monday after Graham went on “Fox & Friends” and called the lefty group “anti-Semitic,” “anti-America” and a “bunch of communists.”
“GOP is doing this because they have no plan for our future,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “We’re the ones fighting for healthcare, edu, good jobs, & they got nothing.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized leaders in Europe on Monday as they struggle to salvage a fragile nuclear agreement between world powers and the Islaimic Republic.
“The response of the EU reminds me of the pacifism of the 1930s,” Netanyahu, referring to Europe’s appeasement position towards Nazi aggression in the lead up to WWII, said in a recorded message posted to social media.
“Like then there are those now who hid their heads in the sand,” Netanyahu continued,” as if they don’t see the approaching danger – there are those in Europe that won’t wake up to the danger until there are Iranian nuclear missiles falling on European soil.”
“We will continue to do everything that is necessary to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear arms,” he added.

Con Edison warned Monday that New Yorkers may have to endure another blackout this weekend, when the temperature is expected to reach a sweltering 97 degrees — and feel like 106.
“We expect that there could be service outages — those things happen during heat waves,” company spokesman Mike Clendenin said.
Saturday night’s power outage — which struck while temperatures were merely in the low 80s — led Gov. Cuomo to threaten that the state might revoke Con Ed’s operating license because the company “does not have a franchise granted by God” and “can be replaced.”

As the House of Representatives prepared to vote on a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s racist tweets about four minority lawmakers, he lashed out at the freshman Democrats again on Tuesday and questioned why Congress was not rebuking them instead.
“The Democrat Congresswomen have been spewing some of the most vile, hateful, and disgusting things ever said by a politician in the House or Senate, & yet they get a free pass and a big embrace from the Democrat Party,” Trump wrote on Twitter, listing several grievances about the lawmakers. “Why isn’t the House voting to rebuke the filthy and hate laced things they have said? Because they are the Radical Left, and the Democrats are afraid to take them on. Sad!”

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham has thrown dynamite onto the feud between President Donald Trump and a group of Democratic congresswomen – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.
Appearing on “Fox & Friends” on Monday morning, Graham called the group “a bunch of communists” who he said “hate Israel” and “hate our own country,” further calling them “anti-Semitic” and “anti-America.”

An avowed white supremacist was sentenced to life plus 419 years on federal hate crime charges Monday for deliberately driving his car into anti-racism protesters during a white nationalist rally in Virginia.
James Alex Fields Jr., 22, received the sentence for killing one person and injuring dozens during the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville on Aug. 12, 2017. Fields was sentenced last month to life in prison on 29 federal hate crime charges.
Judge Richard Moore followed a state jury’s recommendation in handing down the sentence. The state sentence is mainly symbolic given his previous sentence on the federal charges.
