As tens of thousands of Jews from around the world converged upon Uman, Ukraine, for Rosh Hashana, anti-corruption enforcement took place on the ground, a move that greatly pleased the US based Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce, which brought the issue to the forefront.
Employees of the local utility authority attempted to extort bribes from local Jewish vendors, demanding hundreds of dollars from each so that they could continue operating. Only this time – for the first time ever – they got arrested while doing so.

Ukraine’s former President Petro Poroshenko on Wednesday said that former Vice President Joe Biden never asked him to open or close any criminal cases as President Trump continues to rail against what he calls misconduct.
Poroshenko refuted Trump’s claims that Biden abused his power as vice president when he sought to pressure Kiev to dismiss a federal prosecutor who was investigating a natural gas company on whose board Biden’s son, Hunter, sat.
Biden has said he wanted the prosecutor fired over insufficient efforts to tackle corruption, and no evidence has emerged to suggest he acted to benefit his son.

The Iranian government claimed on Thursday that it successfully thwarted a joint ‘Israel-Arab’ plot to assassinate Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Major General Qasem Soleimani.
At least three people have been arrested in the alleged assassination plot, according to local media, but their identities and nationalities remain unclear.
The “assassination squad prepared between 350 and 500 kilograms of explosive material” to use against Soleimani in hopes that his elimination would spark an internal Iranian power struggle and “trigger a religious war inside Iran.”

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is preparing to hold a snap internal election for the Likud Chairman, reportedly within a few weeks.
In this way, Netanyahu seeks to establish his position as Chairman of the Likud Movement and prevent attempts to bring about his ouster in the near future.

Yahadut Torah (UTJ) party released a clarification on Wednesday evening following reports that it is conducting a silent negotiation with the Blue and White party.
“There is no change and no coalition negotiations are underway with any party. The faction is part of the united bloc on the right headed by Prime Minister Netanyahu,” the party’s statement said.

The Ministry of Strategic Affairs on Wednesday confirmed a report by the TPS news agency that the head of the terror squad that murdered Rina Shnerb, Sammer Arabid, worked as a clerk for the Palestinian Authority BDS organization Al-Dameer, which supports and promotes boycotts against the State of Israel.
Arabid served in the position at least until mid-2017, and his wife, Nora, has served as treasurer of the organization for the past two years.

“The attorney general’s people are listening to us closely,” a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s legal defense team said on Thursday.
Speaking to the media going into the second day of Netanyahu’s pre-indictment hearing, attorney Yossi Ashkenazi said that the defense team had “presented documents that weren’t part of the materials in the investigation.”
The defense team was “happy” at the attention being paid to their arguments, said Ashkenazi, but much work still remains.
“We argued for 11 hours in the hearing yesterday. I think we’ll need a similar amount of time today,” he said.

The Yamim Noraim are upon us. Berosh Hashana yakasevun – on Rosh Hashanah our fate is determined and recorded. On Yom Kippur it is signed and sealed. During the Aseres Yemei Teshuva, say Chazal, the fate of the average individual hangs in a balance.
It is a time when we seek the ultimate zechus that will tip the scales. Perhaps, a most appropriate zechus is to secure the fate of a neshama that likewise hangs in a balance.
A young child from a far flung moshav in Eretz Yisroel yearns to go to a Torah school! His neshama is craving for nitzchiyus – for eternal life! The government will pay for his school. But they won’t pay his bus ride there. All that stands between this child and his source of life is a bus ride.
