The New York Police Department said it will increase its presence in Jewish neighborhoods before and during the Yomim Nora’im.
Increased foot patrols and specialized units such as counterterrorism teams will be deployed throughout the communities, Commissioner James O’Neill announced Wednesday. He said not all of them would be identifiable.
“It’s my obligation as mayor to make sure the Jewish population is protected not just the High Holy Days but every day, and the sacred responsibility of the NYPD as well,” De Blasio said. “We’ve seen the rise of hate crimes in this city even this year compared to last year, but we cannot be afraid.”
He added: “We will not accept hatred in New York City.”

Rosh Hashanah is the time of year for us to wake up and see our talents and our potential, and to realize that we all have a “million dollar check” inside of us.

A special team of Yad L’Achim activists is to fly to the Ukraine to counter “Messianic Jews who have been coming to Uman in recent years to distribute Hebrew-language missionary material.

Apple’s top-of-the-line computer will be assembled in Texas, the company announced Monday, a manufacturing decision that got caught up in the trade war with China.
The Lone Star State can thank new tariff exemptions for Apple’s move. President Donald Trump has been pushing Apple, which makes the vast majority of its products in China, to build its products in the U.S. “Apple will not be given Tariff waiver, or relief, for Mac Pro parts that are made in China. Make them in the USA, no Tariffs!” he tweeted in July.
Over the weekend, the administration exempted certain Chinese-made components used in the Mac Pro from tariffs. In a statement, Apple CEO Tim Cook thanked the administration for the exemption, which allow the company to assemble the computer inside the U.S.

Furious anti-vax parents in New York this week are posting memes and images of sad children — and have shown up in person to protest the governor — because a new law prohibiting unvaccinated children from attending school went into effect.
The mandate, enacted in June, “prohibits a school from permitting any child to be admitted to such school, or to attend such school, in excess of 14 days without sufficient evidence that the child has received all age appropriate required vaccinations,” according an official publication from the New York Department of Health, Office of Children and Family Services, and the State Education Department.

President Trump on Monday tweeted out a video mocking Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) over his failed 2012 presidential bid, comparing it with Trump’s own success four years later.
The video includes clips of election night in 2012, when Romney lost to former President Obama, and in 2016, when Trump defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
The video was posted just hours after Romney told reporters that he wants the Trump administration to give Congress the transcript of a highly controversial call between the president and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Benjamin Netanyahu and his political rival Benny Gantz may rotate as Israeli prime minister, Reuters reported Monday.
The proposal was reportedly considered during negotiations between the two politicians and President Reuven Rivlin, who is tasked with picking a candidate best-placed to try to form the next governing coalition.
Making the prime minister role rotating has precedent in the 1984-88 unity government of left-leaning Shimon Peres and right-winger Yitzhak Shamir, who took turns as prime minister.

A new interdisciplinary study on the “Havana Syndrome,” led by Dr. Alon Friedman, M.D., of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel and Dalhousie University Brain Repair Center in Nova Scotia, Canada, points to overexposure to pesticides as a likely cause for neurological symptoms among Canadian diplomats residing in Havana in 2016.
It is the first study of its kind focused on Canadian diplomats.
The “Havana Syndrome” was the name given to the symptoms initially believed to be acoustic attacks on U.S. and Canadian embassy staff, first reported in Cuba.
