New York is reinstating restrictions on visits to hospitals, nursing homes and prisons in its coronavirus “red zones” as the state tries to reverse a slow but steady increase in the number of infections. The state Department of Health told facility administrators Friday the state is also banning most visits to adult care facilities, pediatric skilled nursing facilities, state-run homes for individuals with disabilities, mental health and substance use treatment facilities and juvenile justice facilities in designated red zones as of Sunday, Oct. 25, with exceptions.

11 Cheshvan is the yahrtzeit of Rochel Imeinu and a special day of tefillah.  Kever Rachel was built as a place for Jews to daven in golus. For those who are davening for children, a shidduch, parnassah, health or any other matter, the zechus of Rochel Imeinu is a zechus for them. Going to the kever on the yahrtzeit is a tremendous merit. According to official statistics, Kever Rachel is one of the three sites in all of Eretz Yisroel visited by the largest number of visitors. Every year, on the yahrtzeit of Rochel Imeinu, tens of thousands of people visit the site. The number of visitors on that day has exceeded 150,000. According to some estimates, even more than 200,000 people flock to the kever.

A museum in Israel on Monday postponed its planned auction of dozens of rare Islamic antiquities after word of the sale sparked a public uproar. The L.A. Mayer Museum for Islamic Art said it was putting the auction on hold after a positive dialogue with Israel’s Culture Ministry and in response to a personal appeal from the country’s figurehead president, Reuven Rivlin. In a statement released by the museum, the Hermann de Stern Foundation, the institution’s primary donor, noted that the collection was privately owned and the sale was permitted under the law. “The foundation’s management hopes that the postponement will make it possible to reach agreements that will also be acceptable to the Culture Ministry in the coming weeks,” it said.

It is with much regret we inform you of the Petirah of longtime Lakewood Askan and community activist Reb Pinchos Gershon (PG) Waxman Z”L. After contracting COVID-19, Reb PG suffered other complications, and was unfortunately Niftar this afternoon at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Reb PG was renowned for his Chesed and Tzedakah in a quiet way, and was a beloved friend to thousands around Lakewood and beyond. He resided in the 14th Street area. “PG was brilliant, with a heart of gold. His love was his Divrei Torah he wrote every week, and he was a real example of what it means to serve the Tzibuur,” a neighbor and longtime friend of Reb PG told TLS.

An airstrike on a rebel training camp in northwestern Syria on Monday killed more than 50 Turkish-backed fighters and wounded nearly as many, in one of the heaviest blows to the opposition’s strongest groups, a spokesman and a war monitor said. The opposition blamed Russia for the daytime strike and vowed to retaliate for the attack on Faylaq al-Sham. Russia and Turkey, although they support opposite sides in Syria’s conflict, have worked together to maintain a cease-fire in the last enclave of Syria’s rebels, centered on the province of Idlib. But the attack comes as relations between the two countries have shown signs of strain over Turkey’s increased military involvement in a region stretching from Syria to the Caucasus and the Mediterranean.

Now that the Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to end the 2020 census count, the courts should not interfere with efforts to meet a year-end deadline for turning in numbers used for divvying up congressional seats by state, Department of Justice attorneys said recently in court papers. All further court challenges to the Trump administration’s numbers-crunching methods for the 2020 census should be suspended as the U.S. Census Bureau works toward turning in apportionment numbers by a congressionally-mandated Dec. 31 deadline, Trump administration attorneys said. The Trump administration filed the court papers in response to a request from U.S.

Following a protracted battle against the coronavirus, Bnei Brak was officially categorized as a green city on Tuesday morning. Only 35 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the city in the past two days, and the positivity rate stands at 3%, the Health Ministry reported. The Bnei Brak municipality has made extensive efforts to reduce the infection rate in the city, disseminating health information and increasing enforcement of health regulations, including widespread inspections of city institutions. “We marked another significant milestone in our battle against the coronavirus this morning,” said Bnei Brak Mayor Avraham Rubinstein.

The United States believes it killed seven senior leaders of al-Qaida in Syria in an airstrike last week as the leaders were meeting near Idlib, U.S. Central Command said Monday. A Central Command spokeswoman, Maj. Beth Riordan said the strike was conducted Oct. 22. She did not identify the seven leaders by name. “The removal of these AQ-S leaders will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to further plot and carryout global attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians,” she said. “AQ-S takes advantage of the instability in northwest Syria to establish and maintain safe havens to coordinate terrorist activities,” she added. “With our allies and partners, we will continue to target al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations.” (AP)
