The war of words between Chicago’s mayor and President Donald Trump escalated Monday after a weekend where dozens of people were injured by gunfire and 12 were killed, with the mayor rejecting any suggestion that federal troops should be dispatched as they were in Portland, Oregon, and Trump all but promising to send them. “I have great concerns about that in particular, given the track record in the city of Portland,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said, even as Trump was telling reporters that federal officers could help bring order to Chicago. “I have talked to the mayor of Portland (and) we don’t need federal agents without any insignia taking people off the street and holding them, I think, unlawfully,” Lightfoot added.

A dog named Cleo who disappeared from her home in Kansas earlier this month turned up a few days later at her old home in Missouri, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) away. Colton Michael told television station KMBC that the 4-year-old Labrador retriever-border collie mix showed up on the front porch of his family’s home in Lawson, which is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Kansas City. At first, she wouldn’t let anyone get near her, said Michael, who has lived in the home for nearly two years. “She finds her way home, and there’s some strangers living in it. That would be scary for anybody,” he said. Eventually, he was able to gain Cleo’s trust and to get her checked for a microchip, which showed that she belonged to the former owners of his house.

During a visit to the construction site in Pyongyang, Kim lamented that his ambitious project of building a new general hospital was being carried out in a “careless manner” and without a proper budget and ordered all officials responsible to be replaced, the North’s official Korean Central News Agency said.

A federal judge in Manhattan on Monday sentenced former state New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to 6.5 years in prison for his conviction on corruption charges, completing the downfall of a politician who once was the most powerful Democrat in New York’s government. The 78-month sentence came after an appeals court in January upheld four of seven corruption count convictions following Silver’s retrial in 2018, affirming that the Democrat used his position to solicit bribes. The judge also sentenced the former politician to a $1 million fine. Silver, 76. acknowledged his wrongdoing before hearing his punishment, calling the use of his political office for person gain improper, selfish and unethical. (AP)

Wherever a broken piece of the Beis Hamikdash fell a Shul would eventually be built, and in the neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo one of those charred remnants fell. We have begun building a beautiful Shul, but due to financial difficulty we have fallen short of our ability to complete this holy building in one of Jerusalem’s bustling religious neighborhoods. “It was about 24 years ago that the esteemed Ramat Shlomo neighborhood was established. Unfortunately, no Shuls were built.
