Join us once again to Bring Shabbat Home this week! CLICK HERE TO JOIN! We are all in isolation, stuck in our homes, praying and hoping for better news, for this terrible virus to run its course, for an end to all the pain and suffering. In the meantime, there are so many questions. What can we do from the safety of our four walls? How can we reach out to our sisters and brothers, to let them know they are not alone? What can we do to hasten the end of this virus, to bring the Ultimate Redemption one step closer?

By Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5TJT.com Never before in the annals of halachic history has there been such a need to plumb the depths of halachic nuances in light of new technology. We all miss our minyan, our Barchu, our Kaddish, our Kedushah, our krias haTorah. The ubiquitous use of Zoom has brought up the question in many circles of reestablishing the minyan, or at least a limited form of it, through Zoom. So, what is the story? What can be done? What may not be done? And what is a machlokes? Types of Zoom Minyanim Before entering into this halachic minefield, we have to distinguish between two theoretical types of Zoom minyanim. Pay close attention to these two types because the subtle nuances can make a huge difference in the final halachah.

When Hatzalah CEO Eli Beer was lying in the ICU of the  University of Miami Medical Center, critically ill due to the coronavirus, one of the people who helped save his life was Dr. Joel Sandberg, the father of Facebook’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg. Dr. Sandberg, who is part of the Hatzalah board, is a physician and voluntary professor of ophthalmology at the University of Miami Medical Center. “I was intimately involved in his entire hospital course,” Sandberg said in an interview with Jewish Insider (JI). “It was just natural for me to be his medical advocate,” Sandberg spoke to the medical staff treating Beer on a constant basis, analyzed Beer’s lab data and updated Beer’s wife, Gitty, three times a day.

Joe Biden ventured back onto the campaign trail Thursday, targeting the critical battleground state of Florida — but without actually leaving home. The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is staying in his Delaware house amid efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus, which has shut down most aspects of American life, including the presidential campaign. But he held a virtual roundtable on Thursday with more than a dozen African American leaders in Jacksonville, including Rep. Al Lawson. “It’s great to be in Jacksonville today,” Biden said, grinning.

Being that New York has flattened the curve of COVID-19, the Bobover Rebbe-45, HaRav Mordechai Dovid Unger, wants to reopen his Bais Medrash as soon as legally and safely permitted. As a first step, the Rebbe has instructed his Chasidim to get themselves tested by healthcare centers if they have antibodies, to see if they have immunity. The Rebbe says people will only be allowed to come to Shul if they were tested that they have antibodies, showing that they are immune to COVID-19. He will also only allow those under the age of 60, and without any medical conditions.
