Israel’s Foreign Ministry says it has summoned the French ambassador to protest remarks made by the former French envoy to Washington, in which he called Israel an “apartheid state.”
Former ambassador Gerard Araud on Tuesday replied to reports that Israel had summoned Ambassador Helene Le Gal.
Chairman of the Yisrael Beitenu party, MK Avigdor Lieberman, announced he will not enter a coalition of a “halachic state”.
During an interview with Yediot Achronot, Lieberman added, “We in Yisrael Beitenu have five mandates against the 22 of the chareidim and chardalim (chareidi dati leumi), and we see our role to prevent the unilateral initiatives that are liable to turn the State of Israel into a halachic state.”

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri has announced putting a NIS 70,000 cap on payments to performers in cities performing on Yom HaAtzmaut around Israel.
Deri was responding to the outrageous reports that some leading Israeli performers are being paid extravagant amounts to perform this Independence Day, some receiving in excess of NIS 250,000 for a single one-hour performance, sums coming from government budgeting.
In the past, yeshiva budgeting has been held up by the Finance Ministry, which at times, holds the funding hostage to political goals. As coalition negotiations are taking place, the chareidim are working to implement a historic change in the distribution of yeshiva funding to bring an end to this for once and for all.
During the funeral procession of the late Kaliver Rebbe, it was announced by the head of Kol Menachem of Kaliv Institute Rabbi Yitzchak Bronstein, that according to the will of the late Rebbe, his grandson would take over his position as head of the Chassidus.
