A Monsey woman was moments away from losing $20,000 to a scam when Chaverim of Rockland intervened just in time, preventing the fraud and saving her from financial loss. The woman had received a call from someone claiming to be a U.S. Customs detective, falsely accusing her of sending an Amazon package containing drugs. The scammer pressured her to withdraw $20,000, warning that she would be arrested if she didn’t comply. Believing the threat to be real, the terrified woman withdrew the money. Fortunately, her husband, suspecting something was wrong, quickly contacted Chaverim of Rockland for help. Volunteers immediately responded to the M&T Bank in Monsey, intercepting the woman before she could hand over the cash to the scammers.

This past Motzoei Shabbos Khal Torah Utefilla of New City celebrated the Hachtarah of their esteemed and beloved Mara D’asra, Harav Binyamin Steinberg Shlita. The Shul was founded about seven years ago by a handful of Bnei Torah who moved out to New City, a few miles north of Monsey. As the Minyan grew to include many respected talmidei chachomim, magidei shiur, kollel yungerleit, and baalei batim bnei Torah, it became apparent that the Kehillah would require a true Gadol, a Muram Me’am, to serve as their Rav. After months of searching and researching, the tzibbur found what they were seeking; Harav Binyamin Steinberg Shlita of Besonhurst, a true talmud chacham who spent many decades toiling in the daled amos shel halacha. Rav Binyamin grew up in a home of Torah and Rabbanus.

NYS Assemblyman Aron Wieder has announced his resignation from the Rockland County Legislature, effective immediately. Deputy Mayor Joseph Gross of Spring Valley narrowly survived unharmed in a serious accident on Sunday afternoon when his vehicle veered off NY-17 near Exit 114. The car plunged down a steep embankment, overturning multiple times before coming to a stop. Bichasdei Hashem, Gross walked away from the crash without injury.
