YWN regrets to inform you of the tragic Petira of Hagaon HaRav Michoel Bender ZATZAL. He was 71 years old. Rav Michoel suffered a heart attack and was Niftar in Monsey on Tuesday afternoon. The Niftar was the longtime Mashgiach at Yeshiva Bais Binyomim (Stamford Yeshiva), and was one of the secret Tzadikei Hador. Those who were Zoche to know him, say that there isn’t enough ink and paper to describe the Tzidkus and secret Chasadim that he spent his life doing. He was an extraordinary Oved Hashem, as he spent his life below the radar with extreme humility. He was a son-in-law of the late Stamford Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon HaRav Simcha Schustal ZATZAL.

Chaveirim of Rockland inaugurated a new emergency response vehicle donated by VIP Collision on Tuesday morning at Ramapo Town Hall. The event was emceed by Rockland County Legislator Aaron Wieder, who introduced various other dignitaries, including Ramapo Supervisor Michael B. Specht, Ramapo Chief of Staff Mona Montal, Ramapo Police Chief Martin Reilly, Spring Valley Police Chief Richard Oleszczuk, and Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, among others, all of whom came to express their appreciation for Chaveirim’s work. “As much as we do, we can’t be everywhere, we can’t see everything, we don’t know every single thing that’s going on.

In a shocking incident, a Monsey Hatzolah member was assaulted by an irate truck driver on Sunday as the member responded to an emergency incident. MONSEY SCOOP reports that the Hatzolah member was at a call on Ridge Avenue in Spring Valley at approximately 3:45 pm Sunday afternoon, and his vehicle partially blocked the roadway as he attended to the patient. Shortly afterwards, a truck driver attempted to pass through the roadway, but was unable to due to the emergency vehicle blocking it. Furious at the inconvenience, the truck driver exited his vehicle, approached a Hatzolah member, and promptly assaulted him before fleeing on foot.

Thanks to the dedicated response by Chaverim Of Rockland volunteers, a woman whose expensive jewelry ended up in the trash was thankfully retrieved. Chaveirim received a frantic call that the woman’s belongings – including expensive jewelry and clothing – were mistakenly picked up by the IWS Sanitation. Chaverim Coordinator Yossi Margareten immediately reached out to an IWS Executive who contacted the drivers and met up with Chaverim volunteers at their Hillburn Garage. After around two hours of hard work sifting through the trash, the woman’s belongings were retrieved.

Numerous viral messages have been going around Monsey / Rockland County about an alleged armed man in a vehicle frightening many people. Even worse, multiple schools sent irresponsible messages to their parent body frightening parents. Not ONE bothered to verify anything. Monsey Scoop reports that they have spoken with Chaveirim Coordinator Yossi Margareten who confirmed with Ramapo Police that there is no threat whatsoever, and people should stop forwarding fake news. Rockland Chaveirim received a frantic call on Tuesday afternoon from a group of female hikers in Kakiat Park, with the caller stating that one of them had fallen, sustained injuries and fainted – possibly from dehydration. Chaveirim and Hatzolah members swiftly responded to the area, forming a group and heading down the trail towards the injured hiker. Once the volunteers reached the hiker in need of assistance, Hatzolah and Chaveirim spent approximately 30 minutes providing initial treatment to the patient. Once the woman gained her footing, a specialized stretcher was brought up to assist in the evacuation of the woman from the trail. Together, Hatzolah and Chaveirim members brought the woman down the mountain and to safety.

Chesed Shel Emes of Monsey received its first-ever specialized operations truck on Thursday, with the vehicle to provide a boost to the organization’s operational capabilities and efficiency, Monsey Scoop reported. The truck, donated by Meyer Tauber of Metrex Realty, Leiby Teitelbaum from Belgian Blocks, will be used for a variety of purposes, including transporting niftarim and cleaning up scenes as necessary, among various other services provided by the organizations selfless volunteers. The truck is Chesed Shel Emes’s fourth vehicle, and the first in the area to cover Rockland County and the Hudson Valley region.

A true Kavod Hatorah! On Sunday night the Monsey community flocked in droves to the LifePlex Plaza to hear words of Hesped and inspiration upon the Petirah of the Sar Hatorah, Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky ZT”L. As word of the distinguished and inspiring speakers went out, the organizers were contacted by local Roshei Yeshiva to find a venue large enough to host the local Yeshiva Bachurim. Additionally, requests for special Yeshiva seating came in from Yeshivos in neighboring Passaic and even as far as Boston. After consulting with the dedicated and professional Rockland Chaveirim volunteers to formulate a plan for the logistics of a venue this size, the preparations were underway.

A disturbing incident has come to light on Sunday, when local residents witnessed a Monsey firefighter allegedly using hateful slurs at a fire this morning. Sources tell YWN that the fire was around 11:40AM at 18 Olympia Lane. Thankfully, the fire was contained to the stove area. The fire department responded as well as Rockland Chaveirim – who received multiple calls reporting the incident. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, but multiple eye-witnesses tell YWN that they witnessed a disturbing incident occur. The witnesses alleged that for reasons unknown, one firefighter from the Tallman Fire Department unleashed a slew of hateful slurs directed at the Chaveirim volunteers. The expletives don’t fit the criteria to pass the editorial board of YWN.
