The attached video has gone viral on Thursday. The video was taken from a security camera footage in New Square, and has Wednesday’s date and time stamp on it. Watch as a woman is crossing the street (in the crosswalk), when a Rockland County Sheriff slowly drives right into the woman. Thankfully, the woman was not injured.   (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)

The number of residents seeking to own handguns has risen sharply in a New York community shaken last month by a machete attack that injured five men during a Hanukkah celebration. The Journal News reports 73 pistol permit applications have been filed with the Rockland County Clerk’s Office since the Dec. 28 attack at a rabbi’s home in Monsey, a hamlet in the town of Ramapo northwest of New York City. That compares to 51 applications the office received during the eight weeks prior to the stabbing, County Clerk Paul Piperato told the newspaper. Sixty-eight of the new applications came from Ramapo residents, including 31 from Monsey. “It’s definitely because of this incident,” Piperato told the newspaper, referring to the attack.

After a fast-moving blaze which destroyed the headquarters of the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department on New Year’s Day, Chaverim of Rockland County came to the rescue. With the intervention of Rabbi Abe Friedman, Chaplain of the PIP Police Department, Chaverim of Rockland County generously agreed to provide their state-of-the-art Mobile Command center, to serve as the temporary location of the PIP Police Headquarters until a more permanent location will be arranged. The Chaverim Mobile command post is equipped with state of the art communications and IT equipment, and is perfectly suited to serve as a temporary Police Headquarters.

Rockland Chaverim volunteers once again went above and beyond the call of duty – literally getting themselves filthy as they did an incredible act of Chesed. Chaveirim received a call on their hotline that a pair of Tefillin had accidentally ended up in the garbage of a home, and were now inside the back of a garbage truck. Coordinator of Chaverim, Yossi Margareten sprung into action and immediately called the IWS Garbage Company, and explained them the situation. The company was very sympathetic, and had the truck stop its route and proceed to a trash-transferring facility. At that location, the entire truck of trash was dumped on the floor, and a team of 6 volunteers began their search. After two hours of working through mounds of smelly trash, the group located the pair of Tefillin.

The attached video is fascinating and the Psak Halacha is timely: A Rav from Monsey asked Hagaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky if guards with weapons should be posted at shuls in America due to the recent spate of anti-Semitic incidents. Rav Chaim first answered that everyone should do as they want. But then Rav Chaim was told that the mispallelim want to do what the Rav tells them and Harav Chaim said not to post guards. The second question was should some mispallelim acquire weapons to bring to shul? Harav Chaim answered that they should if it’s pikuach nefesh. The question was explained further that it’s not a matter of “immediate” pikuach nefesh, but of potential pikuach nefesh due to the recent spike in anti-Semitic attacks. Harav Chaim answered that mispallelim can bring weapons to shul.

Rabbi Chaim Rottenberg of Congregation Netzach Yisroel in Monsey will be delivering the Invocation at the NY “State of the State” address at 1:30PM today. This will mark the first time a Chassidish Rav has given the blessing. NY Governor Cuomo visited the home of Rabbi Rottenberg following the vicious attack in his home on Chanukah. Governor Cuomo’s 2020 State of the State agenda includes more than 30 proposals that he has outlined on his website. The proposals include those that would not immediately impact the budget, as well as those that could bring in revenues for the state. Currently, the state is beginning the new year facing a $6 billion budget gap.   

A man is undergoing surgery after a pit-bull attack in Spring Valley, Tuesday afternoon. Chaverim of Rockland tell YWN that at around 4:00PM, a vicious loose pit-bull attacked a young girl and a baby walking on Hoyt Street near West Street. The dog first attacked the girl, and tried to drag the baby away from her. A brave Rockland Chaverim volunteer who lives on the street heard the screams, and ran over and tried getting the baby out of the dogs mouth. The dog would not let go, so the Chaverim member used a knife to cut the baby’s coat to let her free. As soon as the dog lost its grip, the dog ran to a Jewish man standing nearby and viciously chomped down on his hand – literally locking his jaw on the man.

We were lulled into complacency; Now, the question begs: who knew what and when. Monsey, NY – In the days following the November 20th vicious stabbing of a 29-year-old man on his way to shul in Monsey, NY, the community heard one message from the Ramapo Police Chief, Brad Weidel: there is no evidence that it was a hate crime. While not totally outruling that it was a hate crime, Chief Veidel took great pains to say that there is no evidence that that attacked was antisemitic by nature. It fueled speculations that law enforcement has some information directing them elsewhere, and some in the community took solace in this message, interpreting it that this was an isolated incident targeting an individual.
