LOS ANGELES – A furious, wind-whipped wildfire tore through hills on the west side of the city on Tuesday, torching homes and vehicles and forcing thousands to evacuate the coastal Pacific Palisades neighborhood. The region, which has not seen significant rain since spring, had been bracing for flames in conditions ripe for fire.
By the afternoon, the fire had raced across more than 1,200 acres as smoke billowed off the foothills and blackened the skies over Los Angeles, fanned by blasting Santa Ana winds that were expected to continue into the rest of the week. The evacuation forced a panicked scramble and massive gridlock as dozens of vehicles were abandoned on Sunset Boulevard and other thoroughfares, forcing authorities to bulldoze them off the roads to free up traffic.

The more than 240 Palestinian terrorists arrested by the Israel Defense Forces in northern Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital late last month provided “substantial intelligence information,” the army said Tuesday.
The intelligence is “assisting IDF operations in the area,” according to the IDF.
Anas Muhammad Faiz al-Sharif, one of the Hamas members arrested in the hospital raid, told interrogators that the terrorist organization sees the northern Gaza facility as “a safe haven for them because the [Israeli] military cannot directly target it.”

Two people have been found dead inside the landing gear of a JetBlue plane that touched down in Florida after leaving New York City on Monday night. The pair were found inside the compartment at the front of the Airbus A320 after a routine maintenance check at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The flight left from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and landed in Florida just after 11 p.m., operating as Flight 1801.
The New York Post cited officials who said the identities of the duo are being withheld, as the airline investigates how they gained access to the aircraft.

During the swearing-in ceremony, the husband of Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer notably avoided shaking hands with Vice President Kamala Harris. After Fischer took the oath of office while her husband, Bruce Fischer, held the Bible, the senator extended her hand to Harris, who then reached out to Bruce. Instead of reciprocating the handshake, Bruce Fischer simply nodded. Harris raised her eyebrows, then posed for a photo, where Bruce Fischer kept a composed expression. This open display of disregard appears to be a relatively new development. When Deb Fischer joined the Senate in 2013, Bruce Fischer shook hands and smiled when meeting then-Vice President Joe Biden.

On Monday, Nancy Pelosi made her return to Congress using a walker following a hip replacement surgery. The 84-year-old congresswoman had fallen down a marble staircase during a trip to Luxembourg in December, which led to the emergency surgery. When she appeared in the House of Representatives on Friday, Pelosi opted for a pair of slip-on flats, replacing her usual four-inch stilettos. The walker she uses now serves as a stark reminder of the aging makeup of Congress.
